I was kind of wondering about that. Anywhere online to check the wind conditions ahead of time?

I drove the CRV across and the wind moved it around. It was the scariest bridge I have ever driven on.

Friend of ours sits on the floor when they go across it.

I've crossed that bridge several times without problem. When wind blows hard slowing down seems to help.

Pay attention to the wind forecast and you will be fine. The entrance/exit in Astoria is a bit hairy but just take it slow. Bridge is very long. The high part has a great view & the low part seems very low at high tide. Driven it a few times in 40' w/toad. It's pretty awesome!!! Have your co-pilot take pictures.

We've also driven it quite a few times with our 40' motorhome. Thousands of other RVers do, also. If it's an extremely windy day just wait it out. We've never had that problem...always a beautiful day. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the great replies. Really looking forward to this trip. First extended vacation I've been able to pull off in quite awhile. A year and a half to go and I can take as long as I want

I learned to drive in the San Francisco Bay Area. Never gave a second thought about going over any of the 8 or so bridges in the region. First time I went over the Astoria bridge southbound, towing my trailer, I couldn't believe that queasy feeling looking up at the bridge rising before me. Coming back it felt like going over the top on a roller coaster. Since then it has gotten easier, even in the motorhome towing a car, but I still get a little twinge..

Do they have any kind of high wind warning like the Mackinaw Bridge?

Gone across it many many time and will continue to cross it. Slow down when windy. When water starts to get too bad they close it down. Even crossed with waves and spray breaking over side of the floating part. Never worried USCG Air Station Warrenton on Oregon side. Motor life boat school on the Washington side. The life boat school is worth the tour if you are near Illwaco. Why do you think it is called the graveyard of the Pacific?
