DC to Acadia NP/Bar Harbor, Maine

We are planning a trip from DC to Maine in June. We would like to take a Westerly route up through PA, NY, VT, NH. Avoiding 95 through NYC and Boston and enjoying more mountain and small town views. We have 2 weeks for the trip. We would like to spend a couple of days in the Adirondacks, and a few days in VT and NH. The goal is to spend 4 days in and around Acadia NP and Bar Harbor before heading back home. Any route suggestions? Campgrounds? Favorite places to visit and things to see? We will be enjoying this trip with our 17 year old son. We are driving a 38' MH and towing our Jeep.

I can't be much help with routing but "Changing Lanes" on youtube was just in that area and have some places that they liked. If I'm not mistaken they also have a few older videos from a couple of years ago. They might be worth a look.

The Lake George area of NY's Adirondacks is beautiful. Lake George RV park is our favorite place to stay. We've been there many times. Be sure to take a day trip up to Ft Ticonderoga.

NH try to route the trip so you can cross on Rt 112 (Kancamagnus hwy.) Stay in North Conway and take trips to White Mountain Nat'l forest. A trip to the top of Mt Washington will have to be on your bucket list. If you take the Mt Washington Cog Train, it will be an experience you won't forget. It's spectacular.

If you looking for the more scenic route through Maine take Rt 1. It hugs the coast and you go through some quaint Downeast villages. Bar Harbor is very beautiful, although it can be crowded. There are several places to stay there.
We stayed at Narrows II in Trenton. Close enough to visit the town and Acadia NP, but you can avoid a lot of the crowds.
If you have the time try to make a stop in Boothbay, Me. We love this town and there is so much to do there. Never crowded. A great place to stay is Shore Hills Campground and RV Park.

Good luck with your plans.

Have a look at HarvestHosts.com for some incredible wineries & Orchards.com Full hookups will be needed every few days. I've been told I need to check out these:
* Moose Hillock (NH & NY)
+ Friendly Beaver (New Boston NH)

As for the route as mentioned above going through NY's finger lakes would be .
