Delaware to Elkhart, IN
I am making a March 15th trip from Bethany Beach, DE to Elkhart, IN for some repairs to my 2018 Thor Palazzo 33.2.
It appears there are two routes:
1. West across the Bay Bridge MD- north to Baltimore - 70 West to 76 West through Pittsburgh on to 80 West.
2. North to Wilmington DE - NW to Harrisburg PA- 22/322 NW to 80W.
We have not traveled this way and are wondering about the roads, tolls, etc.
The second option is about 20 miles longer.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
John

John,
If you look on the Map - Travel Supremes Old Plant is located in Wakarusa - just a bit south of Elkhart - made this trip Often for about 3.5 years - then TS went under - Bay Bridge to Fredrick, MD to Morgantown, to Washington Pa I- 70 to Columbus then the Diagonal Up.
MAP -https://www.bing.com/maps?osid=a6cfd988-39db-4fb2-b244-ad3e11ceca25&cp=40.44996~-82.435064&lvl=7&v=2&sV=2&form=S00027
In a car I used to run the Toll Roads - did it once in the RV - $$$$ - and the Roads are made for a sports Car. - JMHO. Because of the Construction it also Took longer - long ago.
I-68 is straight and just a rolling up and down - then I-79 up to Washington to I-70 and up easy enough - Think I had 16-18 trips to Wakarusa - and over 20 to Colorado - this is my go to Route to the Mid Part of the Country.
No Tolls - easy enough drive, just understand that the Police do look for your Monetary support - especially on I-68 and I-79 (9 over is the normal Speed Limit)
If you look at the Map you will see that I run on Route 14 out of Milford to Denton - lot less traffic an again IMHO just easier.
Hope this Helps,
note; We would leave late on evening getting to Morgantown or Washington, PA and Wal*Mart the night before continuing on. at 777 miles Think you might also look to do something Similar - Not sure how it is now - as we rarely stay in a CG when just traveling - but the CG's used to be Full of the Guys doing the Drilling in the area between Morgantown and Ohio,

Route 2, I-76 to I-80 is the shortest and may be the quickest. But you are on toll roads in three states PA, OH, IN. I bet MH and TOAD will be between $150-250
Route 1 Bay bridge there is one toll only in one direction. Not sure from bridge to Hagerstown, MD I-70 West to miss DC traffic.
- I-70 west from Hagerstown
- I-68 to Morgantown
- I-79 to Washington, PA
- I-70 to Dayton OH (take the bypass around Wheeling WV and the southern I-270 bypass around Columbus, OH)
- I-75 north to US-30 west
- US-30 west
- Somewhere in IN I would get off US-30 and go north Elkhart.

Take 30 west into Indiana to Fort Wayne pick up 469 around Ft Wayne to Rt 33. Take 33 all the way into Goshen and use it to Elkhart, Goshen and Elkhart are side by side. US 33 is a 2 lane and goes thru some small towns by no issues. Our Road Warrior is 45 ft, 21000 pds and tow it with Ram 3500. Been down that road four times in the last year for work. At the intersection of 30 & 469 there is a large Pilot truck stop easy in easy out, nice parking lot.
Do not take I-70 thru Columbus they are doing major road work on I-70 &
I-71 in downtown. You may run into detours there. There are also construction on the south side of Columbus, but you can get thru without too much hassle.

Thanks Busskipper, Artjoyce and Hamm2018,
Studied your recommendations this morning. They make perfect sense.
Avoid the tolls and better roads.
Take Care. Be Safe.

The AF Museum near Dayton is awesome for any flying junkies. The Motorcycle Museum is next to AMA hq- and actually in Pickerington OH, close to Columbus.

We are taking a similar route west from the Rehoboth Beach. It looks like 404 is the major east/west route to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Can someone who's driven it confirm that road is suitable for a 43-foot Class A towing a sedan? Thanks in advance.

I gave you the short answer last night - Here is a MAP - https://www.bing.com/maps?osid=266e9...=2&form=S00027
RT 1 to Milford, Delaware then RT 14 to Denton, MD where you pick up RT 404 to RT 50 and the Bay Bridge, then follow the direction given earlier across to Ohio.
The direction on RT 14 are faster and with less traffic while in all Towns it is critical to follow the Speed Limit Delaware is often more than just a PITA - so 9 mph over, is the speed limit no Faster.
Roads are good and RT 16 and RT 404 will also work , just more traffic a little slower - and a couple more speed traps - FYI - I make the trip 20-30 times a year, as we have Property at the Beach.
Best of Luck,

This MAP will route you right through Milford - https://www.bing.com/maps?osid=5f8ff...=2&form=S00027
Not necessary to go further up RT 1 - These mapping Apps are really not your friend -
I use Bing on my Computer and Waze in the car - Waze is a smart learning system and routes me this way all the time - Bing - well Microsoft just is still a little slow -
Waze will also usually make you aware of issues early and in Real Time - Used it all across the Country last Summer and was a Big Help.
Not sure of your time frame - BUT - Rocky Gap State Park, in Western Maryland is a Great little stop - Good CG - Golf course - casino - hotel - restaurant and Lake. further up the Road is Deep Creek Lake, with a few spots to stay in the RV, then once you enter WV there are a few more.
Beautiful drive on I-68.
Hope thi helps,
