Delta Aftermath

We are going to be going from Houston thru Lake Charles and turning north on US-165 to a little town SE of Alexandria this weekend.

I'd appreciate any report regarding conditions of 165 and water levels due to the hurricane.

Should we go over to I-49 and up that way?

I live off US-171, and have not been over as far east as US-165 since the storm, though I can tell you that most places in town have power back, with more getting power back every day. Water levels around here seem to be falling, though there are still downed trees on the shoulder of highways, etc.

I assume the conditions on US165 are a bit worse given its closer proximity to the eye, but overall from what I see in the area, I would not be too concerned, though I would certainly want to drive in the daytime. primarily due to the random downed tree or other debris on the shoulder / roadway. Also some traffic light signals, stop signs, and highway signs may be down.

We drove thru Lake Charles yesterday on I-10 and the amount of devastation we saw was nothing short of amazing. On the causeway crossing Lake Charles you could look down and see the boats and sailboats in every direction, rightside up, on their side, and upside down. Looked like a kid had poured his matchbox toys on the floor.

We turned north on US-165 and the devastation just kept going, we finally turned east near Alexandria before it settled down a bit.

All of the roads were in good shape just a lot to look at and pray for.

Thanks for posting back, now if only FEMA would declare my parish (Beauregard) a part of the disaster area.
