Draftshaft Hill aka Utah highway 191

The Mountain Directory West lists a climb for northbound at 14 miles south of Blanding as a 11% climb for 1/2 mile. Named Driveshaft Hill by locals because driveshafts are often damaged trying to climb this hill. Any experience out there? I'm driving 43 ft Dutch Aire with 425 hp and CRV in tow.

Rich with your rig, you should go over that hill and then ask yourself, "What hill?"
Happy Trails

Hi enjoyrv,
Drive shafts are usually damaged when the driver allows Mr. Allison to down shift once well into a hill. When this happens the drive shaft takes quite a torque hit. If you are concerned, manually down shift as you approach the bottom of the hill. As you climb the hill keep the RPMs at 2k-2.2K. Do not let the RPMs drop below 1800. This may require an additional manual down shift. Once you crest the hill, manually up shift to the top gear so Mr. Allison can once again take command.

Manual trans, 100,000lbs rig, miss a down shift , and join the " I think something just broke club ". Tow truck please.
Highway 33, out of Kelowna , British Columbia has 2 pulls similar, drove both on my way home for 7 years, broken down rigs every 3rd, day.
Local tow truck company paid for their new Semi-haulers in a hurry.

There are a cou ple of steep grades on 95 WSW of Blanding, UT. You will not have a problem with either of them.

Thanks for input. If weather looks good for a few days, may head that way up to Moab and east on 70 into Denver. Kids in Breck to visit.
