all things equal it's maybe 45-min longer but lots and lots less stressful.
Yep. This route works. I HATE driving through Atlanta and vowed to never do it again after a 3.5 hour backup a few years ago.
Did the above route last February (not in an RV) and it added maybe an hour. But a lot less aggravation.

After 3 trips to Florida, going thru Atlanta, this is a great help. We will be heading down in February 2020 to Hudson, FL which is on US-19, so I may just avoid I-75 altogether.

Last year, we were delayed hours on I-75 from TN state line on south. Put us into Atlanta about 7:00 PM. Traffic still bad. I thought traffic would be less, that late. NOT.
Further down the road on I-75 heavy traffic near Gainesville and Ocala due to accidents delayed us even more.

I live near Lake City, Florida and I75 and I hate 75. It is a very dangerous highway. I suggest 19/98 from I10

Lit, the "ring road" he is talking about is I-285 "bypass" around Atlanta. It is an absolute nightmare as far as traffic.

Depends on what day you are targeting? If on a weekend, no problem! If on a weekday, avoid early morning and late afternoon. Suggest you use I-285 around Atlanta and avoid I-75 or I-85 through the center of town. Even on I-285, it will take alittle more time, yet you will avoid most of the delays.

Remember, Atlanta rush hour starts at 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and afternoon the buildup starts around 3:30 p.m. and doesn't significantly improve until around 8 p.m. Another thing, an accident anywhere on the major routes (75, 85, 285, 20 and highway 78) can back traffic up for 40 miles during the rush. I would definitely try to time my drive through between 11 and 12 a.m. if during the week.

Edit to fix grammar

I drove I285 around Atlanta just a few months ago. I will never do that again. Not only is the traffic horrible, the road is a mess, just a total mess. If there is a road in GA that needs money invested on it, I285 would be it.
