OOPS!
Traveling from Tenn to FL and want to bypass Atlanta. I am looking at taking Hwy 27 down through Rome, Columbus, Albany and rejoin I-75 at Tifton.
I am looking for ideas of RV Parks along the way down Hwy 27, basically North of Albany.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Wm Mayberry

I've made that trip many times. Any route you choose will be better than Atlanta.

Your plan is almost perfect. You could follow US-27 on down to NW Tallahassee, then take I-10 east to US-19 to avoid Tallahassee and go down US-19 southward. Also take I-185 around downtown Columbus.

I live off your route on 27 near LaGrange, GA. I exit 75 south out of TN at GA 53 (Calhoun) then grab US 27 south at Rome to LaGrange. From LaGrange south I take I-185 then onto Ga 520 at Ft Benning, then to Albany and GA 133 to Moultrie and Valdosta avoiding Tifton. There has been some construction along GA 133 as they are 4 laning it all the way from Albany to Valdosta, but the flow is good and steady- much of it is complete. Cuts a good 1/2 hour off the trip and is a fantastic shortcut.

To answer your question the best parks in the area are around West Point Lake near LaGrange. Several COE Parks and all are spectacular. Worth a few minutes of driving off US 27at LaGrange to vist them. Breathtakingly beautiful waterfront sites W+E and dump. Some 50 amps.

If you just want a private and very nice RV resort along the route there is Pine Mountain RV resort between LaGrange and near Pine Mountain--- its on US 27- not on I-185 but close.

Albany RV resort is just south of Albany on 19. Never stayed there but it gets good reviews and looks good from the road

We went through Atlanta on I-75 a few months ago in the middle of the day and it was a speed-limit trip. Apparently COVID is having some effect on the traffic...

The 1st time that I went thru Atlanta I tried to go thru mid day, big mistake.
Since then, I always plan my trips thru ATL on the weekends.

6 trips later, have not had an issue.
I will make note of this work around.

Good Luck.

Isn't 27 out of your way from East TN? Wouldn't going down I-26 to I-77 and to I-95 into FL make more sense?

I would rather travel through Atlanta than Chattanooga. I find that whole I-74 / I-24 to be a mess; especially the few lanes on I-24. And in Atlanta one could, if they HAD to, get off I-75 and still get around whereas when I-24 stops - it stops dead until whatever mess is cleared.

Still - just wondering where in East TN you are leaving from.

Our Son lives in Chattanooga, so we have to go through there.
I do understand how bad I-24 can be.
We usually stay at a campground just off the last exit on I-75 in Tennessee.

I think we stay at the same campground when we visit my sister in Ft Oglethorpe.

Maybe consider I-75 to hwy 53 picking it up just after Calhoun, then run it to Rome and pick up US411 into Cedertown to catch US27. That'll keep you off those horrible curves and hills out of Chattanooga on I-24.

Pine Mountain campground just north of Columbus, GA is very nice; all pull throughs. There is also Lake Pines Campground in Columbus; call ahead and ask for an overnight pull thru if that's your preference; it's mostly permanent residents but it is a safe place (I never used the facilities).

If you go through Columbus take I-185 and not US27; US27 is a mess below Pine Mtn. From there you can pick up 27 again or take 280 over to Tiffin.

US280 and/or 520 (whatever they call it - also known as corridor Z) is mostly 4 lane and a nice, casual drive through Albany (on the bypass) and into Tiffin. We have driven it as many time from FL to Columbus as we have through Atlanta to points north.

Merritt Pecan is my wife's favorite stop along 280/520 (in Weston, GA). Big place to park a rig, get some pecans or other food and very clean rest rooms. They have diesel fuel too if you need it.

"See ya" in FL.
