Extreme High Winds throughout midwest tomorrow 12-15-21

I live in Omaha, NE and we are under extreme wind warnings for tomorrow Weds 12-15-21 for the entire day. Winds are expected to be over 40 mph with gusts up to 70 mph. Looks like this is the case for a large portion of the midwest. Be safe and hunker down if you can.

They actually moved schools to distance learning for tomorrow to keep the buses off the streets. First time i've ever seen that.

Stay safe!

I recommend the Windy app. You can slide the date/time icon to see the future forecast. Pretty cool.

Sounds like an average "windy" day here in Cheyenne.

Sick of the 40+ mph winds this season. Doesn't look to be any better in the near future.

As the saying goes, Wyoming wind festival January 1st through December 31st.

I live in omaha as well, I will be cracking some windows open on the truck and house, I have seen winds like that blow out windows, my son had a truck window blown with winds in the 70"s. They are also watching for severe storms to occur on Thursday.

If the winds we had in Vegas today are headed your way batten down the hatches and hang on. Gust to 60 mph in some parts of the valley.

Colorado has High Wind Warnings, Red Flag(fire) Warnings and Allergy Quality Alerts due to the winds from 8:00 AM MST to 5:00 PM tomorrow. Midday winds are forecast to have gusts from 40-60 mph in eastern Colorado, 50-70 mph in the Front Range and 80-100 mph in the Foothills.
Due to a 14 day limit in State Parks we have to travel from Loveland to Longmont tomorrow.
I have battened down the hatches as much as possible in anticipation of a quick move from our campsite to the SP's lakeside big day use parking lot. I will park the coach facing into the strongest west wind, deflate the suspension, lower the jacks to just contact the pavement to stabilize the coach and the DW and I will binge watch "Blue Bloods" until it's safe to travel.
Two winters ago we were here and lived through an "atomic blizzard." Our coach floorplan allows us to access everything we need from bed to bathroom to kitchen with all 4 slides stowed. Wind speeds were 47 knots at the nearby airport. We lost power for awhile but just fired up the Onan until it came back on.
The only problem was we had to wait for the morning sun to melt enough of the ice frozen to the curbside of the coach to open the door. I learned I shouldn't stand on the steps congratulating myself unless I wanted ice from the stowed door awning to drop on my head and down my back. [emoji856]

The high wind and rain hit us without warning here in Loveland at 8:15 this morning. I thought I would have more time to pull in the slides, unhook from the power pedestal and hook up the tow dolly. Oh well. We've been through it before.
BTW, the Allergy Quality Alert is actually an Air Quality Alert due to blowing dust affecting those folks with dust allergies. It's a little too warm along the Front Range for any serious snow but they're getting it up in the Foothills and further west with very poor visibility. Lots of flight delays and cancellations reported out at DIA. RTD is removing the crossarms from light rail grade crossings to keep them from being damaged; something they have never done before.
Well, like I used to say to the kids on the school buses with only leaf spring suspensions when we hit a bad railroad grade crossing going a little too fast:
"Whee.....no extra charge."
Most of them wanted to do it again. Some kids would purposely sit over or behind the rear axle and ask me to speed up when they knew we were approaching a big bump.

The only upside, at least from the hometown weather report is the duration will be short. Minnesota has 40mph winds with gusts to 75. Warning is from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm, with peak between 8:00 & 10:00

One thing that I have noticed from living at sea level, my house is about 25' above sea level, is that the higher the elevation, the thinner the air. The thinner the air the effect of wind speed is dramatically reduced.

Winds gusting to 70mph at 5000-6000' feel like 35-40 mph wind at sea level where the air is dense & much more humid.

Still, high winds, no matter where you may be, are nothing to play with.
