Here's a reference:
https://www.interstaterestareas.com/...reas-by-state/
Usually the terminology for overnighting is "resting for .... hours allowed; no camping; no overnighting".
The exact amount of hours you're there would be rarely enforced. Don't set up camping gear outside. Many RVers do this.
I would also advise in today's climate to have water in your holding tank and use your trailer's toilet instead of middle of the night walks to the restroom.

I noticed that CA was very pointed on their website about allowing people to park for 8 hours max. Does anyone have experience with it being enforced? We do not want to get a knock on the door at 3 am telling us our 8 hours are up.
On one cross country trip the plan was to over night at the Alabama state line rest area on I-10 heading east. Unfortunately it was Easter Sunday, the signs said no overnight, and no employees in sight to ask if it was okay. We rested, ate dinner and kept on going to a Cracker Barrel near Mobile.

Regardless of how you find a rest stop the most accurate and up-to-date info on closures, restrictions, facilities and amenities will usually be found on a webpage on each state's DOT website. It ain't no fun to drive for hours to a rest stop you want to use to find out it has been closed for days(weeks, years.)

CHP patrol units are few and far between, I rarely see them when I’m traveling here. I doubt they have the time to check how long someone’s been in the rest area

This ^^^^^^
Plan on spending an entire day picking your trailer up. Ask for a thorough walk through by the dealer and be prepared for them to take some time with your inevitable punch list. Also build a day or two on top of your anticipated travel times. Doo Doo Occurs.

Must be an eastern thing. Out here in the west I've never found one you couldn't stay in. Some even have pull through handicapped spaces in the truck side.

Get rv trip wizard. You can plan your trip and get a list of places to rest overnight. Harvest hosts is also a good choice.

Watch the temperatures on your route. Prolonged temps in the 20s and below can be an issue. TN may be warm enough but you may not be safe until AL or GA depending on your route. If the forecast is for frigid temps make sure it is winterized.
