Florida to Arizona to Montana & Wyoming

Planning stages for 20 states starting in Florida. I've been to Wyoming and Montana in July but not Texas and Arizona or New Mexico.

I don't want snow & ice or very cold weather hence why I'm not planning a start in April. Will July be unbearable in Arizona & Utah?

60 day trip.

Unless your used to it the heat will definitely be unbearable in Arizona in July especially from Phoenix on South. If you can stay from Flagstaff North it's only semi-unbearable.

Grand Canyon Railway close to Flagstaff is my furthest south point.

This July in AZ was the hottest I can remember. Many days 110+. The only places I'd recommend in summer are Flagstaff, Show Low, Pinetop, Greer - in much higher elevation. Texas would be the same along with most of New Mexico except for high elevations. Why not do these states in April - very nice temps and then move farther north in May?

July will be hot. I've been in AZ in Aug. and we were in Williams. Temps were low 80's while the temps in Phoenix were 110. On the same trip we also were in Utah. Moab was hot, while Bryce and Heber City, and Park City were very comfortable. Elevation can make a big difference in temperatures.

is there anyplace special you want to go to in arizona? southern arizona in april / may is not unbearable. do these areas first and then start your travels north. most of the snowbirds leave around the first of april so the rv parks should be wide open.

Ditto on that, in July you want to be in MT or WY. We are from FL and have made that trip many times and have been in AZ, TX and NM in July many times in June and July. That's when we were constrained by the kids school schedule. And it's hotter than Hades except for the higher altitude areas.

As others have said - and it deserves being repeated - yes, the heat in Arizona will be very, very hot in July. We are towards the end of our western adventure that was/is very similar to yours. We left southwest Florida in mid-January headed west along the southern border. We had a long term reservations in central Arizona (between Tucson and Phoenix) for the months of March and April simply to wait for winter to end before we progressed north through the rest of Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, western Wyoming, western Montana, Idaho, Washington, and California in that order. (We are in Oregon presently entering California next.) By the third week in April the temps in our long term Arizona location were starting to eclipse 100 degrees and we were very, very happy to leave heading north where it was sure to be cooler. I have to say, I don't typically plan things as well as this trip has turned out in regards to weather. We don't care for high heat, humidity, or freezing temps. We have had fantastic weather during this multi-western state adventure. Day time temps have been predominantly shorts and t-shirts, and nights high 40's to low 50's which to us is just perfect. As we are now heading south along the Pacific coast, we are hoping the high temps of summer are dissipating before us as we travel and we continue to enjoy cooler days. Bottom line, and if you can, I suggest starting earlier. We headed north from Arizona on May 1st and experienced no snow, no ice, and no very cold weather

July and August in Phoenix/Tucson ? Avoid as its a horrible place that time of year. So far this year over 30 days of 110 plus. Forecasting 3-4 days of 115 this weekend.

Modified route

I changed my route so now Arizona is on the back end of the trip which would mean the earliest for Moab, AZ would be September 1. Does that sound better?
