Gaffney, SC to Elizabethtown, KY via Franklin, NC

In late May early June we will be attending Camp Frieghtliner and having some work done. We plan on traveling I-85 south to US 441 then north to Franklin, NC where we'll be meeting some friends.

What we're not sure about is the best route from Franklin to Elizabethtown, Ky. We're driving a 34 Class A pulling a Saturn Vue and we are fairly new at this having just moved up to a Class A from a Class B.

According to the map, 441 north out of Franklin has lots and lots of curves. But there doesn't seem to be another route that doesn't add lots of miles. We could take US 23 from Franklin over to I-40 then north, but I'm not sure if that is the section of I-40 that is closed due to the landslides.

Any suggestions from the more experienced drivers out there would sure be appreciated.

I'm a little confused over your question (Former Franklin Resident). You would take 441/23 from Franklin to I40... it's a big 4 lane highway and it's the same road. When you get to Dillsboro it becomes a divided highway with limited access (go thru the traffic light after you cross the bridge... bear to the right). You pick up I40 at Clyde (be in the left hand lane as the road splits... left lane goes to Knoxville... right lane goes to Asheville.
