Galveston,Texas to Knoxville,Tn. Via I20

Hi from warm but humid, foggy, and some sun but warm Stella Mare. We have enjoyed it here and Galveston has many wonderful thing to do, but we are forced to go home. Trying to choose a route home that doesn’t involve I10, but we will go back if we have too.(lots of construction with narrow concrete barriers, no shoulders, etc). We are looking at several routes and need something acceptable for our home at 40’ plus car.
I45 to I69-59 to Kilgore then to Birmingham
Alt 2...Cross Ferry and on to Winne 326 to 287 at Kountzie to 69 toLufkin to 59 ???
Alt 3...I45 to Dallas to I20
We have not been on any of these roads except to Winnie. Have no idea if these roads are acceptable for our rig or we should stick to the Interstates.
PS. We have done i 40 several times but haven’t been on I20 before or seen Huston. Is I20 ok? THANKS

Going through Lufkin is fine. The road is nice and clear. They are changing the road name to Interstate 69 from State Highway 59, not sure they've finished past Nac.

I-45 to Dallas is fine, but way out of the way. Crossing Houston on 45 is .. well it's terrible lol, it's totally doable, it's just not pleasant, and if you're in the wrong lane headed north, you'll easily wind up on 10 going the wrong way... actually I think they fixed that lane so it also travels north AND exits 10 as a left hand exit coming from minimum lanes! used to just abruptly plop you on 10, oops.

Coming up 45, hitting 610 south loop and taking it around east to 59/69, through Lufkin, Nac, Carthage into Northern LA works. Then Shreveport to Meridian on 20 is likely your best bet. No way I'd go all the way to Dallas on 45 to hit I20.

OR you could take Beltway 8 around Houston, but then you have to deal with toll booths and that big bridge... It's not as bad the one on 146 though.. If you don't mind the toll booths, that's the best route. The tool booths are plenty big. If you don't have a tag though, you'll have to sort out which lane is the big pay lane depending on what you're in..
