We've done it many times. Good scenic route. Plenty of RV parks along the way. You just have to slow down for the towns. If you're in a rush you might want to stay with 75 otherwise 98 is a good route.

What about the Florida Turnpike? Costs $$ but the traffic is a bit less... only a bit!

Thanks for the encouragement. For once we are not in a rush so Thats the way we will go. Turnpike is wrong direction, we are headed to englewood which has some of our favorite beaches. Ive always done 75 but now being retired it's time to slow down and enjoy the ride

We have gone 98 both north and south. Very scenic ride with some really old towns.
One place to stop is Ho-Hum
Campground. They aren't fancy but convenient and beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico. They also have a fishing Pier. Another place is a Florida State Park your going to want to make a reservation. Not very expensive. Click image for larger version

98 is a nice route. We take it until we get to 589 (Suncoast Pkwy). They accept Sunpass or Toll by Plate. We get off at Hy 54 because we go to Palm harbor. You miss a lot of congestion and stop and go lights, well worth the toll to us. Depending on where you are going in South Florida you could take it to Tampa and then get on 275 or 75. I'm not sure about alternatives to 75 from Tampa.

Ditto on Ho Hum, nice little campground near Carrabelle. It's a fun town to explore and it has a great beach too unless it was damaged by the hurricane. Hope this helps some.

Depends on where you are coming from and your destination.

February 2020, we went thru Alabama and cut over to US231 from Montgomery down to I10 then from Tallahassee to US19/US98 to Hudson on the Gulf Coast. A few small towns and not much traffic, hardly saw any vehicles on some stretches of 98/19.
