i get it...our dog also travels with us. if we’re going to be away for more than 3-hrs we find a local kennel or doggie day care. there are at least three that are suppossed to be near the park. i found them using google. another idea to consider if your truck measures too long or wide.

I know you're saying this in jest , but be aware the Tour Buses always have the right of way .
So , when push comes to shove , it's us that will be backing up .

The drive is worth the risk , besides I don't think it will be too much longer before the Park shuts it down to private vehicles .

Highly recommend. A dog really limits you on the things you can do in a national park. You normally can't take them on trails either. Be sure to read every park's website on pets.

Been through there a couple times. You can make it but it’ll be tight and tough to find parking at any of the viewpoints. Typically very crowded that time of year.

Sorry that this is not a direct answer to your question.

We wanted to go 2 years ago, but we were too early in June and it was not open yet. We have been wanting to go back.

I had the same problem with a 2016 4 door long box dually likely being right at max. We just purchased a HDT and now I am 30' long so there is no way we can take that.

After some research and a phone call to the park we found out that we can use our street legal SxS. We have small group of us going in July. I am really looking forward to it.

It’s a narrow road. I’d recommend taking a tour from West Glacier and leave the truck parked.

Another option is taking the tour with the Red Buses. Very worthwhile not only for the road but for history and driving other area of the park.

.... and yes, the park is very strict on the size of your vehicle so measure it closely before you try to drive it so you're not disappointed.

We will be in the area the last week of July. How early should we book our Red us tour and which one do you recommend?

We were at Glacier 15-22 August in 2019 and it was very crowded. It will be similarly packed when you are there unless Covid continues to have its impact. We stayed on both the East and West sides while there. 1st , the East entrance has been closed because of Covid since last year. Be sure to check if it will be open by the time you want to go. When we were there, we took the Red Bus tour from the East side, and used the shuttles on the West. If you want to drive the Going to the Sun to say you did, then what I say won't matter. But my recommendation is that if you really want to see the grandeur of Glacier from that road, then take the Red Bus. You can probably drive it yourself, but why compromise the experience. Just saying.

Thanks for the great info. Old Red buses look very cool. We are staying on West Side in Columbia Falls. Will sign up as soon as allowed. Went to site and clicked book and it just said tours for 2020 closed. I guess they don't open reservations for a bit.
