Grants Pass to Crescent City.
We’re staying at a park in Grants Pass OR for a Memorial Weekend, then we’re planning to go to Crescent City CA via 199 and work our way up 101, to Florence OR then over to I5. Guy from Washington in our park, said my RV (40’ Dutch Star towing), can’t do that road. Anyone with first hand knowledge of the 199 they could share with us?

Need to check with Caltrans as there are limits for 40' and longer MH's on some roads. They publish a listing and map showing where you can't legally go.

The wording in CA is "Motorhomes over 40'". I've driven 199 both ways and there are a couple of tight spots, and at one, on a curve high above the river, we met a 35+ 5ver! Pucker factor. Otherwise, its a scenic drive. So if you are over 40' tip to tail, then technically you could be cited. BTW, don't miss Oregon Caves (in the toad) and when in Crescent City, Hawaiian BBQ (just google it).
For restricted roads in CA, see; 45' Bus & Motorhome Map

Thanks, we’ll check that. Hope 199 isn’t one, that will really screw up our plans!

I've done it in my 39' pulling a toad. Pretty drive that isn't bad, slow down and enjoy the drive.

Our MH at the time was 40'-11" so it was over the minimum. I went off the normal highway routes and didn't get stopped.

I’ve driven our 38’ class A and toad on that road many times. It is tight in a few corners. In my humble opinion, the tightest and most treacherous curves are the parts right outside CC. If it is really foggy and or congested a good work around is 197 aka North Bank Road, which meets 101 with a light. That avoids the worst curves on 199. Only a few miles extra but very scenic, like the rest of the drive.
By the way DO NOT ever take this route after a rain and freeze.

Drove it in a 45 ft mh couple years ago before it was restricted above 40 ft. It wasn't a bad drive and you shouldn't have any problems, but there are a couple tight spots.
Enjoy the scenery. Oregon coast is beautiful.
By the way I was towing a full size crew cab pickup

Drove from CC to GP in a 39'6" MH towing. One spot has an outcropping on the down side that I laid on the horn. Otherwise it was a nice ride. My starting pucker factor was reduced when I saw an 18 wheeler logging truck coming from the other way
