Gunnison to Colorado Springs

Next week we will be going from Gunnison to Colorado Springs .... thoughts on taking Rt. 50 the whole way to Pueblo West .... or should I cut up at Penrose on Rt. 115? Looks to me the challenge will be Monarch Pass - which I'm sure we will take very, very slow. Is Rt. 115 a good road? Entegra Anthem pulling a Dodge Ram. Thoughts? We are going from Ouray to Gunnison early next week. Thanks, Lynn

Hwy 50 over Monarch pass to hwy 285(left turn after the pass)(PonchaSprings) and then turn to Hwy 24 at Johnsons Village. End up in Colorado Springs. Two passes to go over that do not cause any concern.

Sure hoping you didn't drive that beast to Colorado so you could drive across the plains and get on the Interstate.

Up to Buena Vista the RT 24 across. If you have some time Explore for a while - sure beats The Springs.

Collegiates - Twin Lakes - RT 82 Independence Pass in the Toad - Maroon Bells - Turquoise Lake - Browns Canyon NM - Leadville - Camp Hale - Just to name a few.

In the area there are a few Quincy's Steakhouse - great spot for a Colorado Steak. Also K's in Buena Vista for Lunch.

You do understand that the BEST TIME to be in COLORADO is Late SEPTEMBER - and See/Watch/Experience those Beautiful Aspen.

Where to from the Springs?

Best of Luck,

Thanks bunches! I just printed off the map. We were in Palisades earlier this month and will have spent two weeks in Ouray, going to spend 3 nights in Gunnison and then 4 nights in Colorado Springs. We are mainly going to Colorado Springs to visit friends who live there.

After that ... we will head to Michigan. We've enjoyed Colorado - this is our second time coming. In 2016 we spent a lot of time in Creede, Breckenridge, Durango and Pagosa Springs. We plan to be back in the Gulf Coast the end of October.

I've noted your suggestions and will do those on our next trip to Colorado. Probably the summer of 2020, our current plan is to do the east coast next year. Thanks again

As previously mentioned other routes better scenery but to answer your question 115 is great road and puts you right in Colorado Springs certainly saves some miles vs going to Pueblo and then up to the Springs.
