Has anyone driven the 120 from Lee Vining east to the 6/Tonopah, NV?

Can't tell if the 120 is lots of steep grades, wanted to take a different route home, coming from Tahoe. Thought of taking the 395 to Lee Vining then cutting across towards Tonopah then south on the 95 from there. We went to Tahoe via the 95 & not much to see (Hawthorne, etc). Thanks

Just drove that section of 120 about 3 weeks ago. As you near the eastern end you climb a grade over a pass then down a grade into Benton Hot Springs. It's not that bad or long. About 5 miles east of 395 is the South Tufa Tour at Mono Lake interesting self guided walk (I think $3 and a about 1/2 mile down a dirt road to a big parking lot) a few more miles down highway on north side is a really nice Kiosk at Mono Mills about the Bodie and Benton Railroad and lumber mill that used to cut lumber for the town of Bodie .

Ca 120 Lee Vining to Benton

I like this road. When you are dropping down from Conway Summit look straight across Mono Lake to the big eroding volcanoes on the other side and you will see your route. It cuts between them and the lake before going into the forest. It's kinda steep coming out of the forest on the other side but then it's beautiful, wide open, varied country with a few of those floating tummy dips as it molds to the terrain. It gets pretty steep as it drops into Benton but it doesn't last long before you join Hwy 6. It's long on views and short on traffic I think you'll like it. Kel

We just drove 120 last week. I agree with everyone else, nice drive. It's 44 miles and took us about an hour.
