Smile Hawthorne, NV to So Lake Tahoe

We previously posted about a trip to Oregon....now considering making a side trip to South Lake Tahoe from Hawthorne, NV.....when I did the mapquest it shows going from the 95 to the 339 becomes the 208 to the 395, anyone gone this route, how is the drive?

Also, anyone stayed at the Chris Haven RV Campground? Not too many places in Tahoe with hookups and good reviews....this one isn't on campgroundreviews.com so not sure about it. Tahoe Valley RV Resort is a Thousand Trails & they have room but reviews are mixed & we are not keen on these. Our friends who we would meet up with are staying at Campground by the Lake, nothing available there.

So once again any advice would be appreciated!

Chris Haven is a trailer park with a few RV spaces. We stay at Tahoe Valley Campground which is just down the street. TVC is pretty busy in the summer. Lots of kids and activities. There is a KOA in the area but I haven't stayed there. Zephyr Cove is full hook up and kinda pricey. It's on the Nevada side of the Lake.

As far as your route, the one you list will take you over Kingsbury Grade which is fairly steep and curvy. However, to get to Tahoe they all are. If you go further north to Carson City and catch 50 over to Tahoe it is 4 lane all the way.
You can also take 88 south to 89 and over Luther Pass to Meyers. If you stay at TVC or Chris Haven this may be a better route. There are a couple grades but it doesn't have the switchbacks Kingsbury has.
