If you talking about MD295 and catching US40 in downtown Baltimore then skip I395. I395 can quickly turn into a parking lot at any time. Just stay on I95 and follow the signs for I95/I495 North to Baltimore. Once across the Potomac River keep heading north to exit 22 where you can pick up MD295.

The other alternate, if you're just traveling thru to a final destination, would be to stay on I95 until west of Baltimore then switch over to I695 which will loop around Baltimore to the north of the city and regain I95 east of the city.

An even better route is to avoid I95 north of Fredericksburg all the way to NYC if possible. 300 miles of traffic and tolls. DC-Baltimore-Philly traffic can be pretty bad if you time your travels wrong.

Is your destination Brooklyn or Long Island? If not, I'd go around NYC by way of I-81 and I-84 through Connecticut.

NJ Traffic

Just remember you have to take the upper level of the Varrazaro bridge and stay on I -278, the BQE. It looses and then adds the right lane, passing the Manahattan bridges. Don't feel bad about cutting us off, were used to it.

Don't take the Belt PKY, you'll be stopping at the first bridge.

If you have an RV with a DOT certified LP tank you can take the tunnel in Baltimore.

If you have a bottle LP on a trailer you can not.

For NY routes and travel ideas check the thread "leaving Long Island".

Traffic has not improved in 10 years!

Fuel up in NJ, it's still cheaper than NY.

If there's still time I would take I81 into PA then switch over to I78 into NYC. Once in the metro area you'll need to decide the best way to the Verrazano Bridge.

Gas is not cheaper in NJ any more $2.99 and I just paid $2.85 at Costco in LI and took 95 to 695 to 295 to Varrazano Bridge.

One more Option from a guy who hates City traffic and the TurnPike;....

Map https://binged.it/2zjXCPN .

Slide off the DC Beltway - over the Bay Bridge - (Gas is $2.65-2.69 on Kent Island D=$2.85) - up RT 301 to RT 896 to RT 1 to DMB - to I-295 then I-195
Catching the NJTP...

Just less traffic and an more civil drive - as is normal, avoid rush hours and weekend traffic....

JMHO,

Yes true, I thought you were diesel which was still a bit less in NJ. Glad you made it.
