America's Byways®: National Scenic Byways Online

TX doesn't seem to have any! Of course just getting off the interstate onto the primary road system would probably work quite well. It just won't be a "designated scenic byway".

http://www.byways.org/explore/states/TX/ will show you a list (w/links) of "trails" in TX

araucano:

G'morning from Boerne, TX!! We've been here about a week and plan to stay till end of April, so I'll know more about "Hillcountry scenic routes" after our stay, but so far, any of the drives between local towns (Boerne to: Bandera, Fredericksburg, New Braunsfel, etc.) have been beautiful. Cruising with our toad through the wonderful hills and curves, past the ponds, ranches, and streams and viewing the spring display of flowers comin out has so far been wonderful. Don't know of any specific or designated "scenic byway", but this whole Hillcountry area is GREAT and the folks here EVEN BETTER!! We think we LOVE Texas. Haven't met nicer, more "real" people than around here....well,....cept maybe for Alaska!! (oooops, now I'm in trouble!!)

From my many years of driving the Hill Country roads, these are my suggestions----
1. Ranch Road 32 (devil's backbone)
2. Ranch Road 12
3. State Hwy 173
4. State Hwy 16
5. Ranch Road 470
6. US 83
7. Ranch Road 337
8. Ranch Road 965
Find these on the map and drive any part of them. They are all in the Hill Country.

Most any map or map book shows scenic routes designated by a broken line
