Highway 36 in Kansas

I will be leaving Colorado headed to Saint Joseph Mo and plan on taking Hwy36. For me its about a 10 +/- hour drive, to much for one day as I like the 4-5 hour drive times.

My questions for folks who have traveled the hwy, what type of sight seeing should I plan on? Would I be better to sight see and spend two nights getting across Kansas? Places to see and places to stay would help.
Thanks

You will be seeing a ton of cattle trucks, that's what I remember from crossing Kansas.

Not really much if anything. There is Prairie Dog State Park where you can watch the prairie dogs hang out and Geographic Center of the Contiguous U.S., both relatively close to each other. Other than that the only thing 36 is known for (to my recollection) is the longest yard/garage sale. But that is dependent on the time of year! Last time I drove it the road was good.

Just do a Google on 'What to See, Kansas Hwy 36' and many links appear to give you ideas. Here is one:

Rock Creek Historical Park

I you are willing to get a few miles off of highway 36, there is Rock Creek Historical Park near Fairbury Nebraska. There is also a campgound there.

We stayed a couple days in the town of Bellville - nice little park on the water for $20 a night - Just nice and Quiet.

Done 36 a number of times. Much preferred to I70. Miles & miles of miles & miles. Good roads. Little traffic except near the small towns dotted along the way. A nice break to slow down for a little.
