Thanks all you all (as I used to say when I lived in Tennessee) for your input. I am still not sure of what to do.

We driven it quite a few times both directions with our 40' motorhome towing. You can certainly do it with your Class C. It just depends on your confidence with your mountain driving and confidence in your motorhome. It's a gorgeous drive and we love drives like this. Definitely stop in Silverton for a stay. It's a neat historic mining town.

We've done it many times and really enjoyed it with our 40' motorhome towing. It's one of our favorites and have done it both directions. Definitely spend some time in Silverton. Certainly your Class C would be able to do it.

Many folks don't like it but many do. It just depends on your confidence with mountain driving and confidence with your RV.

I think we are going to do it. We lived in Colorado for 20 years and drove the mountains all the time

We have driven Hwy 550 many, many times in a 25.5 ft Class C. Take your time and enjoy your drive. Much to see and in our opinion not to be missed.
Safe travels

For me, the road width and surface was fine (in September(; but what ate me up was being unprepared for there being NO GUARD RAILS. Now, I don't drive by bouncing off the things; but it really spooked me not having a safety net with those big drops. The second mistake I made was, trying to enjoy the yellow Aspens. That almost cost me Uber bad.

When I used to go to Durango I would take I-70 to 191 south thru Moab to 491 in Monticello to Durango.
Great 4 lane most of the way, No mountain grades & your wife will appreciate it!
