Heading to Galveston. can anyone tell us about highway 59in Texas? we are 45 ft with a toad. Is this 4 lane? any information would be appreciated. Thank you!

59 runs both directions which direction you coming from? Google Earth will let you see. Some 2 lane, good road.

No issues. Came that way south before Xmas. You will pass thru small towns with speed limits. Enjoy the sites along the way. Sometimes two lane and sometimes single.

Just to "stir the pot"... If you go thru Nacogdoces, stop by Foretravel and Motorhomes of TX..every one should dream just a little.

Seriously though......
US-59 is an above average road mostly 4 lane with a few 2 lane stretches.. You will have no issues except the normal traffic woes thru Houston.

We had a Monaco Exec that we bought at Motorhomes of Texas in Nacogdoches. We were up and down 59 many times with 45’ coach plus toad. It’s a good ride. Nacogdoches is the oldest town in Texas, has had 9 flags flown there and has a great little square downtown. Also a cool museum and some great food if you get the chance to stop.

U.S-59 (aka I-69) is a good highway but it will take ou through the Northeast part of Houston and then you will pick up I-45S to Galveston and through some of the South part of Houston.

Here is what I suggest to get to Galveston when coming down "59". Around Livingston pick up Hwy 146S. It makes a couple zig zags but just follow the signs. You will go over the George Hartman Bridge in Baytown and it is high but I have never had any problems towing when going over it. Stay on 146 and follow the signs to Galveston. Hwy 146 "T's" in Liberty at Hwy 90. Turn right and then it will turn left in Dayton. Hwy 146 will merge with I-45 just after the 13'6" underpass. If you are that height let me know and I'll give you a work-around using Hwy 519. We live 14 miles E of Galveston

Hwy 146 will have some stop and go but trust me it is a lot more relaxing than using 59 and 45 If you are an Escapee member, the Livingston Escapee park is on 146. Hwy 146 is two lane but an easy ride.

US-59 through Texas is a good road, just be careful of the speed traps. It's easy to miss a speed sign, on one trip I got pulled over 3 times from Houston to Texarkana with warnings and I don't speed (haven't had a ticket in over 40 years)

Much of US 59 is also co-labelled as the I69 corridor and is slowly being upgraded to interstate grade, though even the parts that are not are generally already a nice 4 lane divided highway which is mostly in good repair.

In general I too would suggest taking the Hwy 146 route south of Livingston to avoid downtown Houston, unless you happen to be arriving on a Sunday morning when downtown Houston is a ghost town.

Speed limits on most highways in Texas are 75 mph

Just beware the speed limit can change from 75 to 55 with no noticeable change in scenery. I got caught in Dibol which is a notorious speed trap.

BEWARE. On 146 north of Liberty, in "Rye" there is a train track crossing 146. Unless it has been repaired, the track is about 5-6 inches out of level with the road grade and can destroy your suspension at about 60 mph. This was a Freightliner IFS chassis. It is a long way to the Liberty Walmart parking lot at 10 mph. Fittings on top of both front air bags were cracked. Avoid that segment and take 59 down to 321, then take 321 to Dayton to 146 southbound. We formerly lived by the bridge in Kemah and used that route up to SHV often. 146 to Galveston is good.
