highway condition
On part of my trip, I'll be traveling from Amarillo, TX to Great Sand Dunes in Colorado. Does anyone know the current conditions on I-25 from Raton to Walsenburg?
My Googlemap shows construction on that stretch of highway.
I'll be in my 45' coach with a toad.
First week of August
Thanks,
Ray

By the first week of August things will have changed. There may be more road construction or there may be none. I-25 isn't all that bad through there and the distance isn't all that great.

Construction is supposed to be on the downhill side of the pass into Colorado. There shouldn't be any major issues as it's just resurfacing the first eight miles into Colorado. The CDOT site says some lane closures and slight delays.

It's not going to be closed. You may have a one-lane at times. Just like anywhere in the country.

I went through there on June 11. Construction northbound had it down to one lane at, IIRC, 45 mph for maybe 8 or 10 miles total. Traffic moved along just fine, it was no big deal. It actually felt safer than trying to zip down the mountainside at my normal speed of 60-65 mph and having cars whiz past me.
US-160 west from Walsenburg is a beautiful drive. Always a treat to see that scenery.

We just traveled that area yesterday (7/6/25). The right lane from the top of Raton Pass has been resurfaced and is in great condition. The right lane north of Trinidad to Ludlow was also resurfaced. It did not look like they were getting ready to do anything on the left lane yet and it's in pretty bad condition in some areas. That could change since they are trying to finish up before the snow season starts.
Southbound in Colorado is very similar with only the right lane resurfaced so far. On the downhill side going southbound in New Mexico, Raton Pass has some very bad spots before getting into Raton. Not long though.
