How is I70 from Denver to Western MD

We came to CO via 70 and 76 than across I90 through SD than South into Boulder. We are starting back to Maryland on July 3. I loved the trip out but am considering taking I70 straight through. Is this a decent route or does it slow around the cities. All advise for routes east are welcome. I am still considering the northeran route home cause I would like to visit Madison Wisc. Also, we are not towing, the trailer sat this trip out, tent and hotels.

On our trip out west last fall, we drove I-70 east from Denver to St. Louis. I don't remember anything particularly unusual or difficult about the route. It is pretty flat and boring thru Kansas and there is obviously more traffic near the larger cities. The volume of traffic around and thru Denver was the most dense but we had no problems.

denver to Madison

The route I suggest from Denver to Madison

I-76 Denver to Julesburg
I-80 Julesburg to Omaha
I-680 around north side of Omaha
I-29 & I-680 (north about 10 miles)
I-680 east to rejoin I-80 west of Shelby
I-80 to near Iowa City
I-380 north to near Cedar Rapids
US-151 to Madison.

This is all four lane divided highway.

If you want to see some things along the way
a) the museum across I-80 near Kearney (you can boondock in their parking lot, I have been told)
b) the Zoo in Omaha
c) the amana colonies (turn onto US-151 at exit 225 of I-80)
d) House on the Rock near Mineral Point, WI

There are very nice state run camgrounds with electrical hookups in
Nebraska at:
==> exit 285
==> exit 312

Took I70 straight through

Came home via I70, decided to skip Madison on the return trip. I70 was in good shape, only minor occ'nl road work. It was a nice trip home .
