How to find places to stop and rest while traveling

Often while traveling in our 43 foot motorhome plus pulling a car, we find that we want to take a rest for 30+ minutes. Yet we find it difficult to locate somewhere to pull off safely and park. Of course, rest areas are good and convenient yet are often too far away or not available at all. Is there an app or other means to easily find/plan stops along the way?

RV Life/RV Trip Wizard (Subscription based) provide Rest Stop/Truck Stop/Walmart etc. locations you can consider. The TruckMap app does the same, as do other apps. Not sure exactly what you consider appropriate stopping locations beyond these. Also not sure by your inquiry whether you travel primarily interstates or a mix with US and State roads as well. While not 43', we also tow and usually can project potential daily stops with just these resources. Might be useful for other responders if you could expand a bit on the types of places you like to target for these stops. Safe travels.

Same size DP. I normally plan out my trips using my atlas, RV parky (which gives me truck stops, Cracker Barrel, WalMart, etc). This site was recommended https://freecampsites.net/ but I haven't used it yet.

I also post on my maps and into my trip route sheets additional stops where we could easily stop for awhile.

Drive safe - Richard

Not as easy if you're driving interstates but we do secondary roads and there's always store parking lots - WalMart, Target, Home Depot, grocery, restaurants or a vacant building's parking lot. No one is going to chase you off for such a short time - especially stores. We've also find some nice small town parks. We've never had a problem finding a place.

For interstates you'd have rest areas, truck stops and restaurants

Have had to stop unexpectedly a few times for a potty break while on interstates.

I do what the truckers do, take an exit and pull off to the side. A lot of exits have extra wide parking room where they meet the adjoining road.

We usually don't have a problem finding a vacant parking lot to pull into for a short rest!

Hmmm... Interesting. I typed in Next Exit and nothing came up. I do have the printed version, but would be nice to have the app. I'm going to have to try again.
