Hwy. 77

I will be heading home to Michigan from Daytona area. GPS showing two ways. Up us75 or 95 Through the Carolina's to hwy 77. Never gone up Hwy 77.
Which way would be a better drive through the mountains?

I take it you like the mountain drives...I-95 to 77 is better for that and more scenic. As much as I dislike the drive through Atlanta, I-75 seems like a more direct route than 77 and it avoids the I-80/90 tolls to head west.

If I were not in a hurry, I'd still probably go I-95 to 77. I did some growing up in WV and love the Appalachians and the State Parks.

Another option is to take I 95 to I 26 then continue on US 23 (It is the extension of I 26) to US 35 to I 75. Less traffic than I 77 and no tolls. If you take the route, cross over the Ohio river to US 52 at Ashland Ky than take OH 823 to reconnect with US 23 North of Portsmouth. That way you avoid Portsmouth OH. The route is 4 lane 99% of the time and much less traveled than I 77.
