I have travelled US-83 from North Platte, NE to I-90 multiple times in my motorhome ...

No low bridges ... lots of green pastures with range cattle in the Sandhills of Nebraska ... it is quite a distance between towns (so check you fuel)

North Platte has a Love's & Flying J, rv parks, restaurants, Buffalo Bill State Park.
Valentine is sort of an oasis ... pine trees ... there are restaurants, fuel stations, rv parks there.

There is a native American casino just north of the Nebraska/ South Dakota line ... if that is your thing.

I'd run I-40 to 83 then head north to I-90 at Murdo, SD and west on I-90 to the badlands. The road has seen some hard use the last 4-5 years with the oil boom in ND, but Last time I was on it was better than alot of our Interstate system. If you are going to be in the area of Murdo west the 1st week of August be aware of the Sturgus SD Cycle Rally. They are celebrating their 50th anniversity I believe, could be crowed in the black hills and along I-90. They thin out pretty good the later part of the 2nd week. Camping reservations are not only scarce but very expensive during this time.
