I-10 Construction/Repairs @ Lake Charles, LA

For those planning to travel IH-10 through Louisiana;be prepared for lane closures, stoppage, slow traffic and diversions;

LA DOTD announces bridge joint repairs on I-10 in Lake Charles
Published: Mar 01, 2018 5:00 PM CST
Updated: Mar 02, 2018 4:57 PM CST

(PRESS RELEASE) The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that construction work on I-10 in Lake Charles is scheduled to begin on March 3, weather permitting.

After almost 60 years of service, the expansion joints on I-10 need maintenance work. This maintenance, will upgrade I-10 to handle the traffic volume anticipated during the upcoming I-210 redecking project. The project on I-10 is expected to last approximately 4 months, weather permitting.

Work will begin in the eastbound lanes of I-10. The outside lane will remain open while construction takes place in the inside lanes. Once complete, traffic will move to the new construction while repairs are completed in the closed outside lane. The westbound lanes will follow a similar pattern. Lane closures will be in effect on a 24/7 basis.

Motorists are advised to use I-210 as a detour while work takes place. Additionally, motorists may use LA 12 via LA 27 and U.S. 171.

No No No Interstates

Best option is to stay off interstates all together for the betterment of your coach and the betterment of your mind.

The US 84 will take you anywhere you want to go from the east coast to and from Texas that I-10 or I-20 will take you. Large portions (can you say MS?) are 4 lane and open running without trucks and traffic (minimal). You can go 70 all day long.

The US 380 will take you to and from Texas to the west (northern Texas) anywhere that I-20 or I-40 will take you.

Be kind to your rig and yourself.... get off the interstates!

FWIW.... My $0.02

I am going from the RGV TX to Destin FL. While your roads might get me there, its kind of like going around the elbow to get to the thumb. Thanks for the suggestions.

Grew up a a Navy Brat and then joined the Army, spent many an hour on US highways E to W 2, 40, 66, 80, and 90. N to S on 1, to 101, 281, 395. Started driving some of them in 1955.
Been in every state except ND and it's on the bucket list.

To boring of a drive and getting into fuel up at stations is really ridiculous.

Went thru Lake Charles Monday. Garmin said the bridge was backed up. So we took the bypass. Not my favorite road, but we got by ok.

Now relaxing at Hilton Head Motor Coach Resort.
