I-20 through Shreveport?

Howdy friends,

Sort of hate to ask, because I fear the answer my be “No,” plus I apologize to my Louisiana neighbors in advance.....

Have the East-West road conditions through/around Shreveport been improved any at all in the last 12 months?

I always seem to have the opportunity to repair something in or on the 5er every time we go through there.....we call it the “Shreveport Effect.” It’s been consistently bad enough in the past that I’m considering alternate routes this trip even though it may cost me a little time.

Thanks in advance,

Try I-220 around the north of Shreveport

I agree on the I-220 around north side.

I remember when they first opened I-220 over Cross Lake. I think it was one of the writers for the local newspaper suggested they route people to Shreveport on to I-220, over Cross Lake, across the Red River to Bossier, and then bring them back westbound into Shreveport because the view was so bad.

I haven't been that way in a while, but downtown Shreveport used to require a few lane changes and then I-20 in Bossier around what used to be a shopping mall was pretty rough. Same issue east & west bound as I remember.

I-220 to the north is better than I-20 through town, but it is still a bit rough in spots. Just plan on slowing down.

I just traveled 220 a few weeks ago and my ribs, neck and back are beginning to heal some now!
It is still rough in a F53 motorhome. I diesel pusher may be much better. I slowed way down and made it through but it was a huge relief when the road finally smoothed out some. Don't know of a good way to avoid it going east-west on I-20.
Thanks,

We ran through Shreveport a few weeks ago. Foolishly I had thought/ hoped that the road surface condition had improved on 20 going through town. That was a mistake as the conditions on 20 are as bad as ever through Shreveport. I-220 around the north side is not great, but its tolerable and much better than 20 through town and didn't add any significant time to the trip.

I was surprised the road conditions on I-20 through Jackson MS weren't very good either. Once outside Jackson and Shreveport, I-20 was a very good road for us to use.

But I will continue to use I-20 rather than I-10 for east west travel. The runs through Jackson and Shreveport are short and relatively easy to deal with compared to the miles and miles of damage and construction on I-10 in TX and LA

thanks to you all for the replies; sounds like things haven’t changed much....still a choice between bad (I-220) and worse (I-20).

Safe travels,

I got a good laugh out of this. We recently went through Shreveport in our MH for the first time on our way to South Carolina. I felt like I needed dental work after the drive.

I have done both 20 and 220 recently and they both sucked. At least 20 was less time out of my life.

Did I-220 today westbound to I-49. The road sucked. Driving a Vacationer on an F53 chassis. We are on a trip from Gardnerville NV to Florida and back by way of Oklahoma City for dog competitions and for the most part the roads in AZ and LA have been the worst. All states have had some really crappy roads but so far those two states have had the worst.

Just my opinion, yours may vary.

must be something wrong with those F53 motorhomes I have to go through Shreveport on 20 and 220 all the time ! other than all the light fixtures on the floor and all the cabinet doors open and dishes in the floor and all the stuff in the refridge upside down, its a fine ride !!!

When traveling through Shreveport I just grit my teeth and go slow. Just traveled I-10 from El Paso east through Texas. Haven't taken that route in years. That was about the worst driving experience we've had in a while. Looking forward to driving through Shreveport again after that.
