I-20W from Jackson MS to Dallas, TX?

We hope to be heading Dallas, TX for the grandson's high school graduation in our new coach the first week of June. That is IF the dealer gets all the delivery problems fixed in time.
From the Jacksonville, FL area we usually travel west on I-10 to Lafayette, LA, then I-49 N to Shreveport, LA, then I-20 W to the Dallas area So we're familiar with that route.
I would like to change the route and get off I-10 somewhere in MS to head north to Jackson, MS where we'll pick up I-20 W for the rest of the trip.
An early look at the map shows that we can go north on US-49 near Gulfport, MS through Hattiesburg, MS and then to I-20 W at Jackson, MS.
Looks like all interstate or primary highway so I don't expect any low overpasses or narrow roads to contend with so traffic and possible construction will be the only concerns.
Planned overnight stops are at the welcome center/rest area in either AL or MS for the first night. The the Tremont Rest area just west of Monroe, LA for night #2. Then in to the Dallas area and the RV park.
I haven't driven on I-20 anywhere east of Shreveport, LA in quite a few years and never on US-49 through MS.
Anyone familiar with the current conditions on the proposed route/roads please chime in.
Thanks.

I have traveled US 49 numerous times (last week) from where I live close to Port Gibson, Ms. to Valdosta, GA. US 49 is a busy north/south route in Ms. but not that bad really. There are a couple ways to get to I 20 from I 10 in Jackson. (1) Traveling I 10 into Ms. you can take MS 63 at Moss Point north to Lucedale Ms. then US 98 west to Hattiesburg. Take I 59 around Hattiesburg and catch US 49 just north of Hattiesburg to Jackson. (2) Traveling I 10 further into Ms. at D'Iberville take MS 15/67 north to US 49 then north and around Hattiesburg as in the other route. Both are good HWYs with the MS 15/67 being the newer. You will have to go thru some road construction before you get to D’Iberville on I 10 and there is some construction on HWY 49 south of Hattiesburg. Traffic moved freely in both areas. I have traveled I 20 west to Dallas and it has some rough areas but nothing I would be overly concerned about. I’m sure there’s construction ongoing somewhere along I 20.

I went from Dallas to Jackson, MS last year. I don't recall any issues with I-20.

Take the loop around Shreveport. I-20 through town will shake your bones. It amazes me how once you hit city limits in many town, the interstates turn into crap. Also, if you stay on 20 all the way to 636, the last 10 or so miles has many fairly big hops in the road. We usually stay on the North side of Dallas so we take the 80 split off near Terrell.

Thanks to all.
Some good options to look at.
Seems the I-20 is about the same as some of the rough areas of I-10 in LA.
The stretch after getting off the bridge at Baton Rouge to Lafayette is about as rough as it gets.
