I-40 Question
How is the pavement on I-40 these days? I have a trip from Northwest Georgia to Arizona planned and I-40 is the most direct route for me. I haven't driven it in 15 years or more but it used to be pretty bad in many areas.
Thanks,
Ben

we ran I-40 EB from Holbrook, AZ to OK City last May. road wasn't bad in my opinion other than thru OK City but we turned onto EB I-44 there. two years ago the WB stretch from 5-10 miles east of I-17 to the I-17 junction was horrible.

If you go and it seems bad to you then just get off and continue on another route.

some roads are better than others, just go the most direct route. I ran from Memphis to LA once a week for 15 years and all I watched for was the weather then and only then would I go the southern route

Just traveled across I-40 from Barstow, CA to Amarillo, TX ... pavement conditions ranged from pretty good to good.

Just got back from a round trip to Lake Havasu via 40 thru Knoxville & 81 back to Jersey. OK had stretches of construction (squeeze to 1 lane), and traffic in Nashville, Memphis, OKC and Albuquerque was nuts but otherwise, nothing really sticks out in memory as being terrible EXCEPT west of Kingman. Very rutted tire lanes.

We live in ABQ. 40 is normally OK except for usual repairs and traffic. The wind normally kicks up in the afternoon and it can be a game changer.

we just travelled on i-40 between albuquerque and holbrook. nothing abnormal about the pavement. there were a couple of construction sites but who know if they will still be there when you travel or if they will open new ones.

Just drove 40 in September from Memphis to CA. It was fine in most areas. Best thing about fall trip was that summer construction season was mostly over out West. Several stretches said "Roadwork next X miles" and the work was done and road new and smooth.

Just finished a trip from northern Alabama to Flagstaff and drove I40 from Memphis to AZ. Some small construction in OK but overall the route was very smooth. Hwy 72 is also great through AL and MS

I drove I-40 from Gallup NM to NC a month ago. I don’t recall any particularly rough sections. There was heavy construction east of OKC that slowed us down for a few miles.
Coming from NW GA. I would suggest taking US 64 to Memphis. 4 lane divided most of the way.
