I-40 West of Memphis

Has anyone been west of Memphis on I-40 recently? Trying to decide the best route from Western Kansas to Red Bay, Alabama.

No worries! Have a great trip. You will likely only be on I-40 for about 300 miles and it will be just fine.

I came west this past October and it was rough as a cobb for about 60-70 miles maybe a little futher. I thought it was going to shake the A apart. About Carlile not sure on the spelling, it got smoother..Happy Trails.

Last month drove cl A from Memphis to Morrilton and back to Memphis. 70-80 miles of some of the worst pavement I've ever been on in each direction. Also truck traffic was incredibly heavy. I had to hold my speed under 60 because of the rough road and trucks were just blowing by me constantly. A nightmare trip. Next time I will take the more northern route across US Hwy 64.

We left Memphis yesterday morning heading back to Texas. As above posters have stated...of the 3000 miles driven this trip, it was the worse. At 55 mph things still fell off the walls. I have a cow path back home that would be smoother. No stimulus monies being spent here, not even a blue sign saying they were going to spend any.
