I 80 in Illinois should be 30 mph

I 80 in Illinois between Joliet and the Indiana line should have the speed limit reduced to 30 mph. ( 45 mph there is too fast )
It’s too dangerous on that road, east & west.
It’s like railroad tracks for 40 miles.
It will destroy your RV suspension
Someone should file a lawsuit against the Illinois Governor.
With all his money he can pay for it.

I seen 6 vehicles with flat tires heading east on Saturday.
2 of them passed me going too fast. I was down to 35mph, I couldn’t go any faster. They hit the crazy 2-3 ft bumps at 45mph and get flats.

I will second your comments about the condition of I-80 in the vicinity of Joliet. Abysmal and inexcusable.

The good news is that you can exit I-80 at Joliet and take either US 6 or the Lincoln Highway, US 30, as far as Gary IN. Either route is about 45 miles and the current time calculated on Google Maps is about 90 minutes, which will give you your average of 30 mph.

Wish I'd seen this before going through there a few weeks ago...

Was west-bound; sign said "Rough road ahead" - way too soon before hitting the rough road. I truly thought the front end was going to be a pretzel after the encounter!

We drove it both ways this past July, avg speed was 15mph. And, yes, we saw an accident happen 3 cars in front of us while east bound. The high speed drivers looked as they had nothing to lose given the bent cars they were driving at high speed before the F150 drove over the front wheel of the Malibu.

We avoid that area and all of Indiana by exiting I-80 at I-39 and going south to US-24 east at El Paso IL. to US-224 east to US-30 in OH. All pretty good two and four lane roads. US-30 is a very lightly traveled, mostly limited access highway. Usually a very pleasant drive compared to I-80. To get back on the Ohio Turnpike we get off US-30 at US-4 and go north. We've been using this route for a few years (both directions) and plan to continue.

Safe travels.

Great, We are headed west to Elkhart monday for work. Spending the night at Potato Creek State park. Tuesday we off to the Dells of WI. Our plan was to enter IL on i-94 and follow I-80 to i-39 back on to i-90.

What would you recommend??

I traveled us 30 through IN and OH several times it was good traveling. But in IL you go through one little town after another and I assume a traffic light at each Corner.

Take 80 to either 294 or further west 355 north. They both come back to 90.
They are toll roads tho.

So i-294 to i-90. Looks like it will be about $35.

Thanks.

Take 355, tolls should be about $16 to $27 without I Pass or EZ Pass. Depends on whether they classify you as medium or large truck. With my IPass, I'm a small truck, 35 foot Suncruiser, 2 axles, 6 tires.

I live near 355 & 55, take 355 & 80 when going to see grandkids in NY. Roads were good from state line to 355 in early July. I think its farther west near Joliet that things get bad
