I-86 Erie Pa to Binghamton NY road condition?

Tomorrow we are heading from NW Ohio to Crazy Acres campground in Davenport NY in our newly rebuilt 2004 Monaco 40' Camelot diesel. Looking on the map, the quickest route is Ohio turnpike to Erie PA then through New York on I-86 to Binghamton then I-88 the last hour to Davenport NY.

This is our first trip in the coach and I am hoping for smooth roads as we will have our elder parents with us who have never ridden in a coach before. I have heard varying accounts of the condition of I-86, but I am guessing that somewhat recent improvements should make this an easy drive?

Other longer route option would be to stay on 90 Thruway into New York then south through Coooperstown to our destination, but I have heard NY tolls are ridiculous and it will take an hour longer also.

Any advice from those who have recently been on I-86?

I86 in the Corning area was in poor condition a few years ago but has been repaved. From the intersection with I390 east to I88 it should be in good shape. I have not been West of I390 in a couple years but that was OK the last time I was there at least as far as Salamanca.
I would not do the I90 route as you should be fine on I86 and I88

you can stay at the Indian Casino in Salamanca, NY if you go that route only 4 hours to your destination from there

Is there decent parking there for my rig? Is it a long walk to the casino? My parents can't walk too far, but a casino with restaurant sounds fun.

We drove I-86 in both directions from B'ton to Erie last summer - no issues. It can be a bit windy in places, but I was on cruise control the entire way.

If you want to stop, the Corning Glass Museum is well worth a day's delay in your trip!

judging by the sat image in google maps it's a big parking lot, I have never stayed there at the casino.

Corning Glass has RV parking as well, with COVID I would check the status first online

I drive I 86 all the time. It’s in better shape now than 2 yrs ago.
If you come, come low on diesel. Plan your stop for diesel at M&M Junction
It’s owned by the Seneca Indians.
Last price I checked it was $2.85
I fill up there on my way west and on my way east. I make sure I’m near empty.
If you have a Sams MasterCard, you get another 15 cents off per gallon.

The road off the highway has lots of ruts, so just go slow off the highway, it’s only 1/4 mile.
Be careful with your turn, maniacs drive on 219. Just go slow.
Pull in at the Truck Entrance and drive around the building to the pumps.
They don’t have DEF at the pumps.

You can park at my house, but mine is on my RV pad.
I need my 50amps.
My backyard is I 86

Walmart in Horseheads, NY let’s RV stay. Kinda noisy.
Walmart in Sayre, Pa is about a mile or two off the highway.
They let RVs park way in the back. It’s very quiet there. Easy in easy out. Just pull in and turn to the left where the employees park. There is a motel next door which is about empty since the natural gas companies left.

If you’re in Davenport, you might want to to a day trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame…it’s amazing

Corning Museum is open but last I heard they requested pre-registration due to Covid. Not sure what the latest is with lots of occupancy restrictions being lifted. Just call to inquire if interested. It is a very good museum.

I-86 Erie Pa to Binghamton NY road condition?

6/15/21. FYI - active construction milling and repaying between Steamburg (reservation line) and Exit 20 / Salamanca/ Casino. Just go slow.
Both East and West lanes.

Thanks all for the info....
I think we are going to drive this evening after work about 4-5 hours to and try and sleep near Jamestown NY at Chautauqua Lake Rest Area. Tomorrow morning we will then head east and hit the M&M Junction truck stop for some "cheap" diesel! Check in at campground is 2pm so maybe we will also stop at casino for a bit. The glass museum is probably not gonna happen as it it be too much walking for my dad.

Here is a link to my 2 year rebuild of this coach. This is our first trip so hoping for no big problems... Bringing an old motorcycle as back up transportation.

Sounds like I'm late to the party and you're already on the road. All I can add is that I'm right off 86 at exit 52, a couple miles from the Walmart. If you need anything feel free to hit me up, I have lot's of tools and always willing to help.

I use I-86 all the time, both ways. Good road. Much better than I-90.

Thanks everyone... Trip went smoothly other than a stop to change fuel filters. Diesel at M&M Junction just off I-86 on 219 was only $2.85.... filled up there coming and going. Road was decent for most of trip.
