I traveled that route early last month towing a 5th wheel, other than a few places under construction, lots of traffic, and a bunch of 18 wheelers, I didn't notice anything unusual. Typical stretch of Interstate.

I suspect a quick look in your blue pages (government) will show a DPS road conditions telephone number. These resources are normally accurate and up to date. Good source.

We live in Crossville, TN which for all practical purposes is halfway between N'ville and K'ville. and use 40 all the time with no real issues. Just travelled the eastern half laast Sat. and it was ok. If you are going byd K'ville on 40 be sure to use the I-640 by-pass.
One caution, I personally would not get anywhere near Knoxville on any Saturday when UT is playing a home game as they are very serious about football and turn ot by what seems like zillions, Ken,'04 DSDP...

I usually stop overnite in Crossville on my way to the Smokies. How is 40 thru Knox on Sundays?

Hobbyjack, I personally have never had any issues with I-40 on Sundays in either direction. I would still use the by-pass as I am not fond of I-40 in downtown Knoxville in that it is old and narrow; whereas, the by-pass is practically new and was designed for today's larger and heavier vehicles, Ken,'04 DSDP...

Made the trip today, Nashville-Knoxville, via I40. Very good road, some 4/5% grades but overall very good ride. Great views. My F550 pulled the grades very well. Decided to traverse Knoxville thru town just to see what the roads we like. Found they are working on a large part of that part of the road. Overall not bad. Will be here in Sevierville, River Platatiion for two weeks and looks like rain, oh well.
