Indianapolis to Door County WI
Planning a trip up to Door County WI / Sturgeon Bay area. Not sure about the routing through Chicago via I90 and I94.
Any other travelers taken a different route or is there nothing to be concerned with here. I'm also fine with traveling up through MI and through the straits of Mackinac and over on highway 2. Any suggestions welcome.

As long as your not afraid of a little traffic, going that route would be the fastest. Chicago traffic is unpredictable, at best. Been in stop and go at 3am.
You could go farther west and take I39 up into Wisconsin and go around Chicago.
For the best scenery Id go as you suggested up through the UP

Agree. In descending order:
1. Route through Michigan UP (Did this. Nice  ).
2. Bypass Chicago on I-39 (Did this, OK  )
3. Don't go near Chicago unless you have to (Did this in the past  , don't have to anymore, but the place can be nice if you want to be there)

Thanks.. All.. I too enjoy the Windy City when I want to. On this trip I want nothing to do with it. So, I'm going up through the UP.
I'm in no hurry. In fact, for me, the longer the journey, the happier I am.

For an interesting stop, take in the historic Fayette Town Site in the UP.

No need to bypass Chicago completely, especially as your destination is door county. Take the 294 bypass. Stay on 80 east, the bypass is well marked and easy to merge onto. It'll eventually dump you back on 94 well north of the city. It's especially stress free if you have an IPASS or compatible transponder that would let you avoid the toll booths. You can order an IPASS on-line.

I was going to recommend the UP of Michigan also if you weren't in a rush. We love it!
