Interstate Highway Condition b/twn Mobile, Alabama and New York State?

Greetings from Lake Conroe, Texas. Just now starting initial planning for a summer trip to Mobile, Alabama (via Interstate 10) then all the way north into New York state. Using mapquest, it appears we will travel north from Mobile along I-65 to I-40, then more than five hundred miles north on Interstate 81. Does anyone have any recent travel experience upon these interstate highways which would suggest I need to determine a better or different route in consideration of roadway condition, etc? THANK YOU!

From Baton Rouge (via 12) to Mobile no problem. I was on I-65 a couple of weeks ago and there was no problems, but I-65 is one boring road. I-40 had the usual congestion through Chattanooga. Safe travels.

I-10 gets a whole lot better once you're in Mississippi, and I-65 is flawless. There's almost always some sort of construction in Chattanooga or Knoxville, but the road is flat and pothole-free.

Just returned from metro NY by that route. Found it pleasant with good roads.

I do not recall an over-abundance of CG's along I-65 and I-75. Also, once you get north of Staunton, VA (I-81) keep in mind that CG's are few and far between until you get to the MD border.
