Is it worth it?
I was talking with a buddy of mine the other day, and he almost talked me into buying a good sam membership. We're both into rving, I only have a conversion van, and he is looking at several models. I read where you can get discounts on fuel, at pilot, and flying J...how much are we talking here? I would want this thing to be worth it, after all. What other perks do they offer?

I am fairly new to Good Sams Club but, I have already got my money back on just a couple of things... 5 cents off diesel at flying J and Pilot. (3 cents for gas) I got a 30% off of a couple purchases at Camping World and I got a free nights stay at a resort in Florida last month, I also got a campground book that you get ratings and discounts.
I say well worth the little you pay for it.

To get the tow service you have to purchase the Emergency Road Service through Good Sam which costs more than just being a member.

If you camp at Goodsam campgrounds you get 10% off, over the summer that alone pays for my membership. We also have Gooodsam roadside assistance and it covers our auto's along with the Coach.

Paid $25 for membership last year. Bought two folding bikes at CW, saved $100 for the pair. Bought new shocks all around and I believe I saved $120. All because of the Good Sam discount. Renewed this year and got a free night of camping, so it has already paid for itself.

In addition to the fuel discount at Flying J, you also get half price to dump tanks and a discount on propane. My membership was covered by those discounts and the occasional free shipping and other discounts offered at Camping World.

We are GS members and have the emergency roadside service as well. We havent used the emerg service. We also have the Pilot gas charge card and havent used that either as there are not that many in Oregon, where we spend most of our summer vacation. I guess its a personal thing. Have a look at there web page and offer and see if it makes sense for you.

FYI, you do not have to belong to the Good Sam Club in order to use their ERS.

This is nice to know. Any idea what they charge, to come out to the middle of nowhere?

I have GS ERS, had to use it twice last summer for flats. Once in the middle of Wyoming, more than 30 miles from a cell signal. I had to drive my toad till I got a signal. GS had a Goodyear service truck there in an hour. I paid for the tire, GS found the company and the tire I needed. Same thing happened a month later in Oregon, again quickly found a tire and service truck, one call to GS and we were on the road 80 minutes later. I think it was worth it.

We are Charter Lifetime GS members. Not much different than regular members other than more discount at Flying J, but their prices are usually much higher so it's no biggie.
As long as we've been RV owners there really isn't much we need to buy. Most campgrounds will give you a discount for almost any club. We're FMCA members too and most places give us the same discount.
We have Coach Net for emergency road service and have for many years.
