Just can't stand the rest stops along
the highways. We have to park in the trucker's area because we have a motorhome and towing an auto.
I am talking about REST areas, not TRUCK stops!
Once you open the door, especially in the hot summer months, you are greeted with a rancid urine smell !
Really? Does this need to happen?
Disgusting!

Do you have a large dog and does it pee on your tires? I can't think of what else could cause that, because trucks don't smell like urinals.

Funny. I've found rest stops to be remarkably clean especially considering they are in the middle of nowhere. We never hesitate to stop there.

You must be stopping in some very interesting places - we've never experienced this...

We have been across the country twice, 3 times from NY to FL, and I smell this, in my best estimation, half the time.
Keep it in mind next time you stop at a interstate rest area, in the non-auto area..
I just hope it's our noses, and I'm wrong...

Ooops, I guess it's not me. Others has smelled the urine too..
Just did a search and the first article,
"
Mind your PEEs and Qs
"There is a truck stop in Washington state east of Seattle that has signs posted around the parking lot that have a picture of a gallon milk jug filled with pee and the words “this is not a toilet.” I don’t blame them for that. Anyone who has gotten out of a truck in a truck stop parking lot in the summer knows what the smell of urine on hot pavement can do to an otherwise pleasant afternoon. I had a driver tell me that the first time he took his wife with him on the road, she got out of the truck, scrunched up her nose and said, “oooh–what’s that smell? It’s nasty.” She got that right."
OMG, disgusting. And I track this into my coach?

Was there a dump station at the rest area? Or maybe somebody thought there was a dump station at the rest area? Might just need to be pumped. \ken

Ad another article on this. I guess I wasn't too off base on this discusting habit..
"The joyous aroma of urine
Nothing says modern day trucking like the joyous aroma of urine that covers the parking lots of truck stops and rest areas. My dash camera captured a fellow Trucker pouring his urine outside his driver side window. I know it was urine because nobody drinks steamy yellow colored gatorade.
Truckers complain about the shortage of parking that is becoming a fond memory of yesteryear. Truckers complain about the dehumanozation of our breed by placing truck stops beyond the limits of any major city. The answer is because some of us polish the tarnished stereotypical mold viewed in the general eyes of the biased public. Some of us Truckers are dirtier than pigs and forget image is everything.
Image is everything because it makes us look professional. The negative attitude out here on the road is insane and I cannot disagree with the sterotype because we have ALOT of room for improving ourselves.
I'm not the stereotype. I'm not part of the common mold. I'm not the type to ignore a serious issue with my tractor, trailer, or freight on my skateboard regardless of how much downtime it's costs me. Money means nothing to me to defend our image and protect the general motoring public.
For all you Truckers using the truck stops and rest areas as your personal urine disposal facility, PLEASE stop! PLEASE walk a few feet and use the available restrooms located within the length of one or two tractor trailer combinations. We understand your phobia of interacting with others, but it's part of your job. It's your image destroying ours and we're tired of it. It makes no sense why it's happening considering the amount of big brother watchdog cameras that are everywhere beneath the sun."

We've smelled it too. Not all the time, not in all the rest stops, but it's out there. We've just always considered it a 'cost of doing business,' if you will, of RVing. But it sure would be nice if the truckers took the image thing more seriously!
