Kelown Bc to Las Vegas In February
We are planning a trip in mid February from Kelowna BC, to Las Vegas. We did the same trip last year, but we went through the Columbia Gorge and down the coast through California. We thought about staying in the interior this year. Anyone traveled this route in February. We will be driving a 40 ft mh pulling a toad.Any thoughts or places to see would be appreciated. Thanks

Dry Falls and Pendleton Woolen Mills, both interesting stops. Google them. Also Grand Coulee Dam, they have a nice campground, Steamboat Rock State Park. Nice hike up to the top of Steamboat Rock to stretch your legs.
Happy Glamping.
ps. The climb out of Pendleton can be bad, you may want to wait it out in Pendleton.

Every route I can think of ( and have used in the past in , Nov.Dec, Jan. and Mar. ) never on the road in Feb. Will be weather dependent .
There are High passes on all routes .
Personal favorite . 97 south to 17 in WA. Dry Falls and Soap Lake. both worth a quick stop or stay if timing is right for Soap lake .
Then onto I-84 , through Pendleton , you can use the RV park at the Indian Casino or dry camp in the parking lot. ( Wild Horse ).
I-84 through to 93 in ID.
South through Jackpot . Cactus Pete's dry camp or RV park ( water in the park will be shut off at sites , but there is water available.
South through NV on 93 to Ely, then 6 to 318 and back to 93 to I-15 and Vegas.
The route through NV , has several small towns with low speed limits that are heavily enforced .
Some don't like the route , due to limited cell phone coverage , but there is enough traffic that , it doesn't bother me.
I have links to OR, and ID traffic cams , so you can look at current road conditions , I'll track them down and re-post.

One of these days I'll figure out how to paste these site addresses over from my favorites list.
www.tripcheck.com/Pages/RCmap.asp?....
www.511.idaho.gov/
EDIT: I can't get the Idaho site to go straight to the cameras. I'll be back.

Thank you all for the replies. Perhaps we might want to rethink this route. Last year we went out to the coast and down. Rain and mudslides last year. Thought maybe the other way might be alright, but mid winter in mountain passes doesnt sound good.

Yes mountain passes on every inland route south , but with a good weather, 4 day forecast they are do-able .
No matter what route you choose ; Safe Travels.

Thanks. We had a bit of trouble getting out of Kelowna last year. All the mountain passes were closed and we hit freezing rain in Washington. Finally made it to the Columbia gorge and got out to the coast. We are just in the planning stages, so have lots of options at this point. Thanks again.

You could also take I 90 over to I 15 but then you have to pass through Salt lake. We used to travel I 15 from the Canadian border in January and had no problems. We just watched the forecast.

3 yrs ago late Feb, we went down I84 to Twin Falls and then south on 93 for a trip to Lake Havasu and Yuma. Yes, you have to factor weather in to the route, but not that much more than I5 and the Siskyou summit in S Oregon. 93 has higher elevation all the way, but is on the drier side of the mountains. We hit temps in the teens, but no snow or road problems. Never had a driving problem.
Nice stop for a night or more is Three Island State Park in Glenns Ferry, ID. No water in winter, but electricity for heat if needed!! Quiet, nice views of Snake River and valley. Mountain Shadows RV park in Wells, NV is nice, and has good reviews. In Alamo, NV, Picketts RV park is good, may be renamed(??). Or just south a few miles are nice "boondocking" spots at Pahranagat Wildlife Refuge.
93 is a good 2 lane smooth road all the way south. One short cut is to go west on hwy 6 from Ely and take 318 south to reconnect to 93 just north of Alamo. Cuts some miles and time and is a bit more scenic.
