Knoxville to Gatlinburg

Anyone have the best route from Knoxville to Gatlinburg? We are coming from the south and google maps wants us to go through cherokee and the park. Not going to try that with a 40' motorhome and toad. The tunnel alone is enough to squash that thought.

Knoxville and Gatlinburg are connected by I-40? Not sure why you’d go through Cherokee so I’m assuming that you’ve got the wrong city name? If you’re south in NC of Gatlinburg, it might be easier to take 74 up to 40 then over the mountians and back towards Gatlinburg rather than trying to take 441 through the park up to Gatlinburg.

So where are you coming from ?
South west up I 75.
Or the south east.

They are essentially next door to each other.

Sorry, original post misleading. I'm driving from Tampa to Gatlinburg in a 39' motorhome next month. Last November I drove Tampa to Cherokee and checked out the route through the park to Gatlinburg and decided it was a no-go for the motorhome with toad.
Google maps route Tampa to Gatlinburg is direct to Cherokee, then through park to Gatlinburg.
So it looks like the best route is tampa to atlanta via 75, then 75 to Chatanooga, then 75/40 to knoxville, then on state roads (maybe 66 to 321) to gatlinburg.
Since I have never driven from Atlanta to Gatlinburg that route, was looking for advice.

If your goal is just to get to Gatlinburg the easiest way just go I-75 to I-40 East to the 407 exit towards Gatlinburg.

Hi Sailorkane,
Like ThomB posted, I40 East to Exit 207 (Rt 66) to Sevierville. Just keep going straight until you get to Gatlinburg. In Sevierville the route will change to RT 441. You do nothing, just keep going. There will be traffic, hang in there.

WARNING: On Friday there is no easy way to get to Gatlinburg. Traffic, traffic and more traffic.

Thanks guys. That's the route I'll take. I appreciate the traffic on weekend. Looks like I'll be going through Atlanta on a Sunday and arriving gatlinburg late Sunday. Hope I'm going against traffic trying to get home!!
