Life is Driving Me Crazy. I Need Route Help

Plans have changed :eek I need to get from Yuma Az. To Huntsville Tx in 3 maybe 4 days. (1300 miles)
I find routes but slim pickings as far as finding places to stay. I will be traveling between May 21st and May 25th. I don’t want to break any land speed records. I figure 300 to 400 miles a day. I know if the weather is yucky I’ll stop and the heck with dead lines Don’t want to boondock cause all I have is a TT and a small generator that will not run my A/C but if I have to I will.

I have All-Stays Camp & RV on my phone but doesn’t list everything that’s out there. thanks LeeB

Consider finding campsites along your route with RVLife Trip Wizard https://tripwizard.rvlife.com/.

Just drive until you want to call it a day and then pick a town you're approaching and look for a RV place, WalMart, etc.

First stop might be in Brady, TX on 190. That's 260 miles:

Walmart in Yuma to KOA in Lordsburg, NM is 385ish miles. They should have a spot.

Or I've stopped at Dewayne's Mountain View RV Park in Bowie AZ. At the 335 mile mark. Much cheaper and simple place. Nothing fancy.

Van Horn Texas with four RV parks and two truck stops is 337 miles from Bowie, 283 from Lordsburg. A better stop would be Saddleback Mountain RV - 72 miles farther east on I-10 at Balmorhea, TX.

Taht will put you west of San Antonio the next / third night. Several places in Kerville, Comfort or Boerne. RV Park USA in Comfort TX is 311 miles from Balmorhea or 383 from Van Horn.

That puts you right at 311 miles to the Walmart in Huntsville on I-10 and I-45, or a few miles shorter, but probably longer time wise to turn north at Schulenberg or Sealy to use Texas state highways to come into Huntsville from Navasota to the west on TX-30.

Bowie, AZ; Lordsburg, NM; Van Horn, TX; Blamorhea, TX are not 'Destinations' for RV folks and should be have space for travelers.

Kerville, Comfort, Boerne - I recommend a reservation. Folks will be arriving early for Memorial Day weekend. But I'm sure you can find a space.

Junction, TX is about 50 miles west of Kerrville, and might be a better place for a reservation. North Llano RV Park is an old KOA, refurbished, and caters to travelers.

Took me less than 10 minutes with RV Life Trip Wizard to check that, and the mileages. You should get such a planning tool to use on a PC, not phone. If you do much traveling.

But I've also driven that trip almost a dozen times, and can do the planing in my sleep, including fuel stops in Eloy, AZ, Lordsburg, NM, Anthony, TX, Fort Stockton, TX, San Antonio or Schulenberg, TX.

I also drive a bit slower than you plan.

Just remember - much of I-10 on that route has NO cell phone service. Had some friends 45' Entegra burn to the frame near Kent TX because not only was it almost impossible to notify the law, it was an hour from a fire department.

you don't need to pay a website to plan this for you. use google maps to find your distances between x and y and then the free RV Parky app to find RV parks.

in about 20-min I selected this route for you:

Yuma AZ - Lordsburg NM. 400-mi on I-10
Lordsburg NM - Fort Stockton TX. 400-mi on I-10
Fort Stockton TX - Kerrville TX 250-mi on I-10
Kerrville TX - Huntsville TX. 250-mi US -290/TX 21 (avoids san antonio)

KOA in Lordsburg
11 parks in Ft. Stockton
9 parks in Kerrville and several more nearby

good luck

OOPS!!! I routed you backwards above... starting your trip in Texas instead of AZ.... but you can get the idea. (Too late to change it. Sorry)

You don't need reservations for one night while traveling. Just stop driving by 4pm and you'll get a site.

Bypass San Antonio and take either US290 across bypassing downtown Austin on the south side on 71, then cut back up to US290 on 21, then TX105 across to Huntsville, Or alternatively take Tx29 across from Junction and bypass Austin on the north side I have driven this first route with our coach at least half a dozen times and the Tx29 route twice. Overall it is a good route, US290 is a bit of a narrow 4 lane with no shoulders for about 10 miles west of Austin, and there is about 5 miles of busy expressway freeway going by the Austin airport, but otherwise it is a good route, certainly beats I-10 through San Antonio traffic. This route will save you about 80 miles vs staying on interstate highways the whole way. Just don't hit Austin at rush hour, of course the same can be said about San Antonio on I-10. (The Tx29 route north of Austin is less stressful, but more miles of stop and go urban sprawl)

The I-10 traffic thru San Antonio has not been bad recently as long as it is not rush hour time frame.
On April 12th we went from Medina Lakes, Thousand Trails Park in Lakehills, to the Colorado River, Thousand Trails Park in Columbus, Texas, on I-10. We hit I-10 at around 10am, no slowdowns. On April 26th, we did the trip back from Columbus on I-10. Only issue this time was at the turn of I-10 in San Antonio to the north, the traffic was stopped, so I took 90 west to the 1604.

Reason we ran I-10 each time was to get fuel at the TA on the east side of San Antonio, using our TSD card.
There is construction on the east side of San Antonio on I-10 for about 10 miles at least.

I avoid Austin like the plague. North - South and East - West

The urban sprawl and traffic backups extend almost to Jarrell on the north and into San Antonio on the south side.

Last winter, January, 290 started backing up on the west side at 71. The 20 miles to 71 east of Austin was an hour and 45 minutes on a Saturday. And I find the traffic on 71 especially very RV unfriendly.

But to each his own.

I also personally, would get off I-10 at Van Horn and take US-90 to San Antonio. A much less stressful, enjoyable drive, but to each his own.

The route I take is US290 to 71, then 71 to 21 in Bastrop, then 21 back up to U290.

The only slow traffic I have experienced on this route is just east of the intersection of US290 and 71 on the west side of Austin.

Another possible route to consider is I-10 to Fort Stockton
US-67 to Brownwood
US-84 to Waco
TX-6 to College Station
TX-30 to Huntsville

About 1,310 miles

Don't pay attention to me, got plenty of time to play with RVTW while watching NASCAR

Thank you all for your suggestions. In San Antionio we are staying at the Elks Lodge on the north side of SA. I called them real nice guy told me pick up I-35 and take towards Austin exit 231 for TX-71 then a bunch of other TX-?? TX-21/ Highway 95 TX-150 loop US-290e
I was able to follow on my Atlas but Texas is so Damn big most everything I was looking at was on the fold.

I am using Good Sam trip planner LeeB
