Moab to Cody route suggestions please
As the title states, when we take our trip in September one leg will be from Moab to Cody to see the Museum there. Doesn’t really seem to be one obvious straight through route. Scenery is nice of course, and we’ve been to Tetons/Yellowstone three times already, so no need to go through there, unless that IS the best way. We’ll be in our 34’ gasser towing a wrangler. So if any of you have suggestions for us we…Thank you in advance.

Moab - 191 to Vernal then Catch Dino - beautiful area - from there to Manilla, and Flaming Gorge - another often missed stop - Now up to Shoshonni - Wind River Canyon - Next Thermopolis - before the last little bit to Cody.
Simple enought.
MAP - https://www.bing.com/maps?osid=27e0c...=2&form=S00027
Enjoyable and Logical.
Best of Luck,
edit/note - Both Vernal and Cody have Wal*Marts to resupply - Just FYI
#2 Aspen start to turn Gold late in September - so that may play in your route - High passes usually turn earlier.... So may want o just keep timing in Mind - Love the Aspen!
#3 Yeloduster - is always a reliable adviser - and is correct as to the fact that My Map may take you over a High Mountain Pass - But it is Beautiful And I would never not slide off to Dino NM or Flaming Gorge as they are both Just Special - JMHO.

As a Colorado resident and a Wyoming native I've at one time or another traveled most roads between Moab and Cody. Click on this Map. The main route denoted on this map is probably the best. Note there is a small section of road construction in Colorado between Craig and the Wyoming state line. Colorado DOT says there is no road closures but possibly wait times to get through. I recently drove Colorado highway 13 from Rifle to Meeker. It is generally a decent 2 lane highway with some sections of minor road damage. I suspect that you will find that type road all the way from Rifle to Wyoming state line. Wyoming highways are generally better! There are no significant grades on this route.
The alternate route shown on the map has some pretty good grades. On Colorado state highway 139 between I70 at Fruita, CO and Rangely is Douglas Pass. It is narrow, winding, has some steep grades and the highway is not in good condition. Between Vernal and the Wyoming state line is another pass with steep grades.
P.S. I see that Busskipper beat me to it. Busskipper has been everywhere and his advice is sound. Ya just gotta pick your poison. Pluses and minuses anyway you go!

Excellent. Thank you all. Just the type of info I was looking for, and knew I could get from the experienced folks here.
We are retired, and not on a tight schedule, so stops of interest are always welcome!
