No matter what route you take out of Washington you are going to go up and down mountain grades. I’ve driven Highway’s 20, 2, I-90, I-5 out of Seattle and they all go up and down.
I’m currently in St. Augustine , FL. We drove I-5 south picked up Highway 58 thru Bakersfield over Tehachapi Pass thru Mojave turned right onto 395 to I-15 over Cajon Pass I-210 to I-10 all the way to our current location. Cajon Pass was the last serious pass on the trip. After that you just get to deal with the crazy weather along the I-10 corridor.

It's not the height of the pass that makes me nervous, it is drop off's right at the edge of the road that makes me nervous. I really hate heights. Even looking at a TV that is looking straight down off a high place send the butterflies in my stomach in to a frenzy. I can handle the ups and downs, just not the being so close to the drop offs.

Whats wrong with the shortest route?

I90E to Sioux Falls, I29S to KC, I70/64E to I57S to I24S to Chattanooga then I75S to FL. Just a few small passes in the NW but all on interstates and none of them have large drop-offs.

Hey, I want to thank everyone for their suggestions on how to get me and my family to Florida. Well, we are here. We went down I5 to just outside of Los Angeles, cut over to what ever road connects to I40 and made our way to Albuquerque. From there, we took 25 to El Paso and I10. Followed that all the way to Florida. We are now in an RV park in Hillard FL. Again, thanks for the help in getting us here

Not sure I would "bookmark" that route.

Did a quick Google Map and that route (I checked Seattle to Tampa) is 718 miles/11 hours longer than the "shortest drive time" route.

But, clearly depends on your priorities and also time of year (north vs south route due to winter weather).

We would not be taking the I-5 north port, but I-40 and the best way to transition to I-10.

This time of year, if I would have gone across route 2 or I90, there would have been snow. Plus I was trying to avoid high roads with drop offs on my side of the road. They way I went was high roads but no drop offs. But mostly due to the weather, the route I took was the best for me.
