N FL to Nova Scotia
We left St Augustine Wed are are in Myrtle Beach, SC. We are in 39' class A and traveling with 2 dogs, 14 month old baby girl, husband and myself. I read a forum for best route back from North (will be going more toward Smoky) but having trouble with best way from Myrtle Beach to Nova Scotia. We have been traveling 17 and it is very slow travel (always fun as baby is in car seat in passenger seat since won't work any where else). Is this the best route? Anywhere we should really stay along way? We did West Coast two years ago for 2 months and I would look up places while husband drove to pick our next place but not working well this time with baby...

We have made the trip from Orlando FL to Nova Scotia now for 4 years in a row and each trip we take a different route. This year we took 95 to 77 north of Charleston then took 77 to 81,then 81 to 84 near Scranton and then 84 back to 95.We always make the detour west to avoid going 95 through New York city. It is a bit longer but we feel safer avoiding the city. Once we hit 95 again north of Boston we take it right through to Houlton Maine where we cross the border into Canada and follow the Trans Canada to Nova Scotia. We choose Houlton to cross because it seems to be easier crossing there with pets. That has been our experience anyway. Where in Nova Scotia will you be visiting ? We summer in the Mahone Bay area of the south shore. Hope that this helps a bit .... Alan

We are driving a 31' Class C from Florida to Maine. Any concerns about grades on the I 77 and I 81 portions of this route?

Would love some other suggestions. We want to avoid the metropolitan areas. Thanks.

I don't think I would avoid I-95 by NEW YORK, but I would stay on the coast until you got to Virginia. Then take 64 to 81 to 84 to 90 to 95. For your size unit this is the best bet, and some nice scenery.

We actually did 95-17-13 then went 295 to 95 East of Philly, we stayed on west side of Manhatten to avoid it - wasn't bad, just don't hit it in rush hour. Not far from Newark, we got on 80 to 287 to 87, are in a 39 foot class A. (You can get on 287 before Newark and avoid it all). Coming back, on way back, we got on 81 in PA and did part of the Blue Ridge PKwy for 100 miles, decidih to get off at Roanoke and get back on 81. It has been easy.
