Navigating Houston Area

I'm planning a trip through Houston, Tx soon (traveling I-10 East to West) pulling my 39' FW. Question, should I take the outer loop 8 (Sam Houston Tollway) or just follow I-10 straight through? Should be attempting this mid-morning on a Thursday.

I’ve done both ways. Just use google maps to look at road conditions right before you actually get to hwy. 8. Highway 10 can be slow and congested but if you just stay in middle lanes people will just go around you no matter what speed you are going. Much cheaper than paying toll on highway 8. Good luck

Enjoy the journey

We have used Rt. 610 around Houston, no tolls. At that time of the day it will still be somewhat congested, but very doable. No worries!

I've run I-10 through Houston many times. It can be slow but it normally keeps moving. Just take your time and don't get worried about the extra 15 min it takes to get through town.

If it really bothers you, then change your schedule to run through at 3 AM, but it's really not that bad. Any route can be backed up with a just happened accident.

I travel thru Houston all the time and I'll just look at Google Maps with the traffic layer on. Early afternoon ( if there isn't a collision) I mostly just take IH 10 thru town. If you are traveling east and chose to take IH 610, go around the north side of it. A little easier drive.
