Need info on I-84 in CT

Hi, has anyone recently driven I-84 through CT from the Hudson River to the Mass Pike?
Heading that way in the next couple of days. When we last passed this way the bulk of the road was pretty good, except for about 15 miles through the Waterbury area, and Hartford traffic. Hartford is pretty easily bypassed on I-691/I-91, but Waterbury has been a mess for years.
Does anyone have any recent info?
Thanks much!

John

I drove through there Saturday morning. Construction wasn't bad but it is always a rat race. If I had my truck I would have gone up 87 to 90 but my destination was the Springfield area. If you are shooting for Sturbridge and beyond it would add extra miles for you.

Need info on I-84 in CT

Thanks much, Scott....
I was looking at 87/90 as an alternate. We’re in the Newburgh area now, so straight I-84 would be best, but the 87/90 option only adds about 20 miles, going to Southbridge, MA.
I know what you mean. A lot of roads are “not bad” in a lighter vehicle running 35psi in the tires, but those same roads get awfully bad awfully fast with the tires at 100+psi.
Thanks for the help.

After one too many CT traffic jambs, we always take the NY Thruway, cut over before Albany, and then shoot on the Mass Turnpike. 20 more miles but way less aggravation and often faster.

Have not been up 84 past Cabela's East Hartford in a while. Although that is a great level place to stop & dump tanks if needed.

As for Tappan Zee to 84 through Waterbury to 691 it is not too bad these days. Much better than it used to be. I don't get traffic slowdowns in that area.

TA, Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, Southington, CT has the best Diesel price with TSD card within a couple hundred miles. Or TA Maybrook NY if going other way to bypass CT.
