The way Garmin keeps coming up with new stuff you might want to wait?

I buy the discontinued or refurbished units at usually 50% of 'new'. I only buy with lifetime maps and traffic updates.

I have yet to see or hear about any install dash GPS with the features my RV GPS has. Why would a 3500 truck not have software that can account for height, length and weight for routing?

And most folks I know do not pay the $100 or so to update their installed GPS.

I like our RV 785, which is the 780 with a built-in dashcam. The 890 has a screen that is 1" bigger diagonally but there isn't enough info yet to say whether it's just an incremental upgrade or not.

My 2 cents. I've had Garmins for years which I consider OK. I recently bought a $50 auto GPS (not a RV unit) off Amazon and I'm impressed with it. It has a 7 inch screen. The brand is MKSUTARY. $50 vs $170 for a 7 inch Garmin. I'm very happy with it.

The 890 is interesting but only for the screen size for me. I buy the cheapest, largest screen Garmin and add the POI's I want. I'm using a 2797 now.

I received the 890 yesterday, nice unit. its basically a 8 inch Android tablet running 6.0.1 with Garmins software loaded on top of it. Great screen, zippy interface, has some bloatware options loaded I'm not so sure will be used (History Channel POI's,Trip Advisor, Four Square, iOverlander and KOA). Uses Google as its main search engine as well, web browser will bring up standard results. "Hey Garmin" works like "Hey Google". I'll report back with real world use once I get a chance.......

That's disappointing. That's what my RV 785 runs.

You'll probably only see one new RV specific unit from Garmin every 12 to 14 months. You might wait for any Black Friday deals in your case though.

Any update on the 890? They currently appear to be out of stock everywhere. Not certain why. Have you had any luck using the Garmin Drive phone app with the 890? TIA

Bought the 890 recently as I thought my 770 died. Turned out it just needed a battery replacement.
Disappointed to see that (as my 770 did) it will not post the current speed limit, or the next Exit# unless I have a setting wrong. Suggestions?

I don't have an 890 but the picture of it on the Amazon website shows the speed limit in the bottom left hand corner. It it's like my RV760, the only time it won't show it is if there isn't a speed limit one posted on the road.

As for the exits, it appears that they are "buried" in the "Towns Ahead" button, if you can find that one.

I'm not sure I like all that info shown along the bottom of the screen. I'm used to seeing it on the "dashboard" as a list on the right hand side.

Let us know what you think of the unit after using it for awhile.

Good luck!

You don't have your screen settings set so you see all you want. Try just pressing on the info icons you see, a menu will pop up allowing you to change some of them
