We are going to Disney World the second week of May. The route I planned is I-95, I-495, I-90, I-84. Penn 209, I-80, I-81, I-64, I-95, I-4
The route my chief navigator wants is to stay on I-81 longer get on I-77, I-26 I-95. She has already said no way to going thru NYC, Baltimore/Washington DC on I-95.

I just want some advice on the two different routes and which one you folks would think is the best route.

Distance wise Good Sam has her way only 9 miles longer than mine.

I would follow your directions to Rt 84, then you can take 84 to 81 South, into Virginia, and then take 64 to 17 to 95. Then just go down South. I just cam up this way from VA and it was not to bad. Some construction through PA but not to bad. A couple hills, but you avoid DC. If you need more PM me, I can give you a alternative to being on 81 as long by taking 87 to 287, and then shooting inot PA through Harrisburg. Let me know.

209 used to be known by the truckers as the Ho Chi Min Trail, and used to have a lot of truck traffic.

I am coming up that way from the Everglades and plan on cutting over to I-81 at Fredricksburg on Rt. 15 up to I-66 over to I-81 up to Scranton. Then 84 east and eventually ending up at Acadia NP.

84 to 81 is the way to go then pickup 95 in Fredricksburg. I would avoid 95 anywhere north of Virginia. It may take a few hours longer, but your knuckles will thank you.Way less stress.

No driving directions, since we fly, but we'll be there the third week of May. You may already know this, but prepare yourself for some crowds, as we all celebrate Disneylands 50th anniversary at DisneyWorld. The new Soarin ride in Epcot is doing it's soft opening in preparation for the May 5th opening, as is the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show in MGM! If you haven't gotten your tickets yet, and need them, a couple of places (for presales)have been having a sale battling for ticket sales. The new tickets are a bit more confusing, but the longer you stay, the less per day. My fav place to buy tickets is http://www.ticketmania.com/discountMS.shtml
They ship quickly, and are a lot cheaper than buying direct at the door!
Oh gosh..I sound like an ad LOL. We'll be there the 17th..maybe we'll see you there!

I always take I-81 as far south as I can before jumping on I-95.

Hey TJinNH,

I agree 10000000% with the others 81 south, stay off 95 untill after NYC, Bailt, & Wash. like Frankie said it might take a little longer, but nicer drive & well worth it!! Enjoy your trip !!

Well, just to muddy the water a little.

We ALWAYS take the beltway around DC when going south. It's not fun, but, if you are careful what time of day you go through, it is still the fastest way, unless there's an accident. We are time challenged when on vacation so want to spend as little time as possible enroute.

I know the navigator and many on this forum have nixed this route, but, if you're in a hurry, (and a little lucky), it's still the best way. IMHO

I would get to I-81, take that to Harrisburg, then I-83 S, Rt-581 S, Rt 15 S, I-270 to DC beltway, I-495, I-95...

Thanks everyone for the advice.
I may take Frankie's advice and take I-81 to I-66 to route 17 onto I-95

TJinNH,

Frankie is right, take that route and you'll be fine, plus see some pretty VA countryside.

Best Regards!

We have done the I 81 but went to I 77 to I 26 back to I 95 to I 4.

One exit W of the I 77 I 81 interchange is Ft Chriswell Campground which is one of the nicesest and cleanest easiest in and out parks we have stayed at and it is quiet as it is behind a hill which blocks the interstate and Flying J noise which is at the same exit. Exit 1 in GA on I95 is Country Oaks campground which is a greata place to stay also.
